What is the "VITAL interest of being involved with Syria?

With Afghanistan?

If it is truly "vital" then why haven't we already resolved it?

Afghanistan has continued for EIGHTEEN years.

We seem to continue the same failed policies, of endless "half-measure" conflicts*

*never settled, by unconditional surrender. Remember the photos of Japss on our hip? Have had no troublewith Japs, since then. Only took two Nukes.

It leades mee to think, like immigration, forces WANT continuing half-measures, both parties.

Mid-east/muslim wars. Illegal immigration. Health care. Drugs.

@truth_seeker

We haven't had a freaking plan to win a freaking war since WW-2. Ever since then the goal seemed to be to fight the enemy to a stalemate and have them just give up.

Now we have an enemy so retarded they don't know what a stalemate is who are religious freaks who think they will go to heaven if killed on the battlefield. These people are NOT going to just give up. We are either going to have to just start killing the bastards without remorse wherever we find them,or trick them into killing each other by giving them something shiny and telling them the other guy says Allah is hot for swine.

 Or just get out. If you are not going to fight a damn war to win it,just get out of it and bring the soldiers back home.

   Hopefully he'll be back.

@Absalom

Mattis doesn't have the combat experience or knowledge of a USMC buck sergeant who served one tour in VN with the grunts. He is,and always has been a politician in uniform.

Sneaky, your observation is correct.
Let's call Mattis a good guy and so what?
The Pentagon has lotsa good guys, again so what?
The issue in play is our strategic interest as a nation. Period!

A real light at the end of the tunnel.

On the head of an oncoming locomotive.

Insistent as all hell and completely deaf, dumb and blind to all else.
My 'Viking Hunter' High Adventure Alternate History Series is FREE, ALL 3 volumes, at most ebook retailers including Ibooks, Barnes and Noble, Kobo, and more.

In Vol 2 the weapons come out in a winner take all war on two fronts.

Vol 3 opens with the rigged murder trial of the villain in a Viking Court under Viking law to set the stage for the hero's own murder trial.

I was trying to educated the NT'ers who keep bleeting "but the Marine General says we need to fight that war!" nonsense,just like him being a Marine General means he knows all about warfare.

   @sneakypete I too was in the Vietnam conflict and my regards for generals is on your level but just a tad higher than the politicians that screwed the whole thing up, JMHO.

I tried to figure out what was going on in Syria back when this started. It seems there are so many warring factions...no one really knows who to fight.

Then add in all the foreign countries, US..Russia..France...Iran.

Our part in this conflict is probably not in our best interest.  Unless we are trying to keep Iran at bay (with 2000 soldiers, really??).  I hate to leave the Kurds high and dry.

If someone can further enlighten me...I'll be happy to listen.
