Tillerson: Trump would ask me to do things I couldn't legally do
By Tal Axelrod - 12/07/18 09:42 AM EST

Former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson says he often had to push back on President Trump, telling him that some of his requests would violate the law.

“So often, the president would say here's what I want to do and here's how I want to do it and I would have to say to him, 'Mr. President I understand what you want to do but you can't do it that way. It violates the law,' ” Tillerson said in rare public remarks in Thursday night in Houston at a fundraiser for the MD Anderson Cancer Center.

“I'd say here's what we can do. We can go back to Congress and get this law changed. And if that's what you want to do, there's nothing wrong with that. I told him I'm ready to go up there and fight the fight, if that's what you want to do,” he added.

Tillerson said Trump would show frustration during those conversations.

Trump and Tillerson, a former Exxon Mobil CEO, were known to have a contentious relationship. Tillerson was dismissed from his post in March and replaced by then-CIA Director Mike Pompeo.

“I will be honest with you, it troubles me that the American people seem to want to know so little about issues that they are satisfied with a 128 characters,” Tillerson said, referring to Trump's use of Twitter.

“I don't want that to come across as a criticism of him,” he added. “It's really a concern that I have about us as Americans and us as a society and us as citizens.”

Get used to it, because it’ll only get worse. Besides, that’s been the state of politics for a while - campaign slogans, bumper stickers, and sound bites.

We need more cabinet members calling Trump "moron."

Just curious, how many Presidents do you all think there were that wanted to do things that weren't legal, but didn't when they were told they couldn't and how many Presidents did it any way? And of those that did it anyway haw many recent ones do you think were Democrats?

"Tillerson said Trump would show frustration during those conversations."

Many people with business backgrounds, would react the same.

Many "real conservatives," have wanted their leaders in government,, to stand firm, fight back.

Yet wwhen Trump does so, they get all weak need, and turn on him.

So who is up next, to lose quietly?

Will it be a Flake-Sasse ticket wipeout? Ryan-Romney again?

Trump: Tillerson 'dumb as a rock'

Heh. I’d love to see the IQ test results Trump once said would be so one side between the two. Somehow, I believe the guy who worked his way from civil engineer to ExxonMobil CEO is a lot smarter than the silver spoon kid, who can’t get through a tweet without displaying his ignorance of grammar or subject matter.

Proving once again, Trump lied when he said "I hire only the Best People!".

Why Trump picked Rex Tillerson

The president-elect was charmed by the Exxon CEO’s Texas swagger and his restraint during the public audition.

By SHANE GOLDMACHER, JOSH DAWSEY and MATTHEW NUSSBAUM 12/13/2016 03:41 PM EST

<..snip..>

Inside the campaign, two competing factions developed. Romney was the preferred pick of Reince Priebus, Trump’s incoming chief of staff, as well as Vice President-elect Pence, according to transition officials. But those from Trump’s campaign itself — led publicly by former campaign manager Kellyanne Conway and privately by former campaign CEO Steve Bannon — were in the anyone-but-Romney camp.

Dissent bubbled up by Thanksgiving, as Newt Gingrich and Mike Huckabee, two early Trump backers, went public in opposition. Then Conway said in television interviews that Sunday that selecting Romney would lead Trump’s supporters to “feel betrayed.”

“It’s just breathtaking in scope and intensity the type of messages I have received from all over the country,” Conway said of the opposition to Romney. While Conway said she was speaking on behalf of Trump’s voters, she was also voicing the internal concerns of some of the Trump’s own staff.

Trump felt trapped, according to transition officials and others, as he set up meetings with Petraeus, Corker and Romney again in the last week of November. It was then that Giuliani says he withdrew from the sweepstakes — albeit in secret.

I learnt a long time ago to never believe that kind of hyperbole.  I don't think you believe it either, but it sure does make a great bumper sticker to pull out any time a good bash is needed.

Believe me, ExxonMobil does not keep "Lazy" people as the dumb ass Trump called Tillerson.

Given his antics since becoming Trump’s legal advisor, imagine what a trainwreck Rudy would have been as SoS.

Or even Romney, another disaster, @edpc but I never liked the close ties Tillerson had with Russia and thought he was a poor choice from the get go.

Trump doesn't fight back.  He just fights.  There is a difference.

And the term is "weak kneed."

Rex Tillerson, didn’t have the mental capacity needed. He was dumb as a rock and I couldn’t get rid of him fast enough.

I guess 'fast enough' is waiting until you're on AF1 and firing him by tweet?  P*ssy.

I can imagine the Secretary of State having a floor full of Constitunal lawyers working for them, just for this purpose, to be sure that the President's orders to the State Department are within the law. I bet many presidents have been told, "Sir, we can't do that".

Just looked at my reply, and it seems to me now it was kind of bitchy :pondering: If so, sorry I've got a lot on my mind right now, my 87 year old mom is doing poorly and has been giving me  the 'I'm ready to go right now if God wants' talk.

I didn't take it as bitchy. No worries.
