The WWII ghost bomber that mysteriously landed itself
By Matthew Black / 08.23.18

Ghost Bombers, St Elmo’s fire, German wonder weapons, and foo fighters are all terms that arouse imagination, and are all synonymous with World War II. The greatest cataclysm in human history was an incredible source for things we knew, things we know, and things we cannot explain. Perhaps the most mysterious of all were the many, many sightings of unidentified objects (UFO was a term that came later) in the skies over the battlefield, and the unexplained phenomenon of a B-17 ghost bomber. What follows are taken from eye-witness accounts and scientific explanations to help us try to understand the inexplicable.
1. An unscheduled plane cuts through the horizon of soldiers in Belgium

On November 23, 1944 something happened at an allied base in Cortonburg, Belgium that to this day has not been fully explained. A B-17G bomber that was part of the 91st Bomber Group was closing in on three allied fixed anti-aircraft gun positions, and looked like was going to crash right into them.
