Mexico Backs Out of Trump Deal

2018-11-25 Source: AAN by: AAN Staff

The United States and incoming Mexican government appeared to have solved the crisis on their shared border for a few hours Saturday – until a retreat by President-elect Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

The New York Post's Mary Kay Linge reports:

Mexico’s president-elect had agreed to a Trump-administration plan that would make Central American asylum-seekers stay on the Mexican side of the border while waiting to be legally admitted to the US, the president had said Saturday.

Can we back out of the Mexico deal? What would happen if we closed the border completely and ceased all trade and cooperation with Mexico?

Then close the border, Donald.

International companies are what destroyed American production so I don't really care. If you didn't want to take that gamble you shoulda bet on Americans.

So what?  The trade imbalance is tremendous and Mexico depends a lot more on exports to US that imports from the US.  IN fact, they are the 13th largest exporter in the world and over 80% goes to the US.

Closing the border brings Mexico to its knees to handle the problem at our border.

It is a very clever move by Trump to threaten this action.

I think this is fine.  Lacking a deal, the fall-back is "Screw you Mexico.  Tell Tijuana to get used to their new neighbors."
