Rep. Trey Gowdy, the outgoing Republican chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, has asked the White House to provide more information about how it handled first daughter and presidential adviser Ivanka Trump’s use of a personal email account for government business.

Gowdy requested information pertaining to how many emails Trump sent from her personal account relating to government business, how many of those emails were archived in accordance with record-keeping laws, and whether the emails contained sensitive or classified information. The South Carolina lawmaker also asked for documents that would show the White House has warned staffers about the use of private email being prohibited.

“The Committee must assess whether the White House took adequate steps to archive Ms. Trump’s emails and prevent a recurrence,” Gowdy said in a letter to chief of staff John Kelly on Tuesday.

Gowdy gave the White House a Dec. 5 deadline to respond and has also asked for the committee to be briefed on the matter.

Could they have created a .gov account for her?  Maybe.  But, the work she does isn’t of earth shattering importance or classified.  Aside from being a minor PR gaffe, this is a non-story.

You can't tell me that she wasn't given a .gov account for security purposes.  Both she and Jared.  The two of them travel to foreign countries and meet with foreign dignitaries; she shouldn't be using private e-mail in the White House.  After the criticism of Hillary, you mean to tell me she didn't know better? 

Her function is to advise her father.  Communication should not be via private email for any reason.  She has a position at the WH; paid or not, it doesn't matter she needs to act appropriately and abide by the guidelines.

Still trying to figure out why nepotism laws don't apply to both her and Jared.  The whole situation stinks to me and should raise suspicion...especially with Little Boy Fauntleroy.

I am with you Liberty, I don't see how anyone could be so stupid. After Hillary there was no excuse except wanton ignorance or an actual attempt to legitimize Hillary's past actions.

Sure,and they almost certainly did,but nothing classified will ever be allowed to be sent over it. Emails aren't even as secure as regular mail,so anything classified goes through government communication centers and is sent out on encrypted circuts through code machines. Even crap rated as "classified".

I admit that email is something that was created after my time,but I see no way that any email can be sent securely. Even if it is encrypted into 5 letter code groups it can be "captured" by any intelligence agency interested and the code can usually be broken in time. Just knowing that personage A is sending an encrypted email to personage B gives the enemy information.

She should have and even if she didn’t, there are plenty of people around here that would know. There’s a pretty big difference between her situation and the Hillary’s server. Clinton specifically set that up to control access and conceal information. There’s no comparison between using a private account and a private server.

It is a non-story.... but I agree with others here that she should have known better... considering how Hillary's mischief over this same issue created such a stink.   Then again... if Ivanka is still a Democrat.... perhaps she is used to and even has become immune to that 'certain' aroma.
