Defeated Republicans mocked by Trump fire back at president
By Juliegrace Brufke - 11/14/18 11:47 AM EST

House Republicans mocked by President Trump after their midterm losses are pushing back on his rhetoric, arguing that embracing the commander in chief wouldn’t have changed the outcome of their races.

Rep. Mike Coffman (R-Colo.), one of several Republicans singled out by Trump at a press conference last week, said that while elements of the GOP base love Trump, embracing the president would likely have caused him to lose by an even wider margin.

“I mean, it was obviously disappointing,” Coffman said of Trump’s comments, “but I think he has to know that he's not popular in my district.”

Coffman lost his reelection race, in a district that Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton won by 9 points over Trump, by 11 percentage points. He said a Trump visit wouldn’t have helped him and that it wasn’t offered.

“He never offered to come out to the district and I clearly didn’t ask him, but I think it would not have been positive and he knows that,” he said.

Along with Coffman, Trump slammed Reps. Barbara Comstock (R-Va.), Carlos Curbelo (R-Fla.), Peter Roskam (R-Ill.), Erik Paulsen (R-Minn.), John Faso (R-N.Y.) and Mia Love (R-Utah) for not embracing him on the campaign trail. All lost their reelection bids.

Well he got what he wanted.  Democrats.  He clearly did not want the Republicans.  Whether they were RINO or not they are not communist like most of the new Democrats.
AG William Barr: "I'm recused from that matter because one of the law firms that represented Epstein long ago was a firm that I subsequently joined for a period of time."

Alexander Acosta Labor Secretary resigned under pressure concerning his "sweetheart deal" with Jeffrey Epstein.  He was under consideration for AG after Sessions was removed, but was forced to resign instead.

They were lousy candidates.  Granted, I would never not vote for a Republican against a Democrat, that would be stupid.  But there aren't enough out there that think that way.

Tell that to the confused people on this board and other "conservative" web forums. Some have actually stated in the comments sections they're happy to see "RINOS" defeated.  Usually the Dem elected over them spouts socialist idiocies. But the confused people really think that's preferable to a moderate Republican.

Regarding RINOs:  Did it ever occur to anyone that RINOs are doing the bidding of their constituents?  Those who chose a communist, socialist, leftist Democrats over moderate Republicans have mush for brains and will eventually regret it.

Think about it, Coffman.  Trump is apparently more popular than you.  Loser.

What good are the RINO's if they won't support major legislation (immigration) when the opportunity exists.

The good of a Rino is that any seat they occupy keeps a liberal democrat out of that seat.

What did the "Tuesday Group" do in the House to pass real immigration reform, or to support building a wall? I'll answer for you, NOTHING!

Why support RINO's in the House?

I can see the argument for supporting them in the Senate because of confirmations and judges, but I really don't see their value in the House.

....embracing the president would likely have caused him to lose by an even wider margin.

So instead of just being a plain old loser you would be a double loser. Thanks for that insight Mike. Hard to believe you lost your seat....you loser.

Not in the House. A RINO in the House makes it impossible to get meaningful legislation passed. You can't shut down the govt because of your own party. If you compromise to much to accommodate them the legislation that goes to the Senate is garbage (obamacare semi-repeal) and if you insist on key issues in legislation you can't get it passed out of the House because the RINO's won't vote for it (immigration reform - only 193 Pubs supported it). The RINO's do more harm than the socialists in the House.

Let's look into why Mike Coffman really lost.....

Quote
The district was created in 1983, and was originally a classic suburban Republican bastion; this was once the safest seat for Colorado Republicans outside of Colorado Springs. However, changing demographics in the Front Range, with a large growth in the minority population (especially Hispanics), has caused the Democrats to win over suburban Denver, while population shifts has removed the rural, GOP-dominated sections of the district to the nearby 4th, turning the 6th district into a mildly Democratic swing district. However, the district still tends somewhat Republican downballot (though this is starting to shift as well.)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colorado%27s_6th_congressional_district

So open borders cost the RINO's another seat. Isn't that special.

Strategically thinking, it is a great time to pry some RINOs out of their seats, even if it means giving the Dems the House. The Pubbies hold the senate and the veto pen, and can stop the dems from doing anything much if they will. If the GOP would learn how to hold the nation hostage (we'll shut down the government!) like the Dems, they'd be able to get what they want with riders on continuing resolutions to fund the show. I doubt there will be a real budget anytime soon.

@Chosen Daughter I'm not quite sure how you're assessing that Trump wanted Democrats?  He campaigned like hell for the mid terms to help not only GOP incumbents to save their seats but those down ballot.  IMHO IF the GOP (RINO's and NT's included) had been unified and their focus was on defeating DEMS instead of Trump, we'd be seeing a whole different ballgame being played right now.

The House elections turned into a rout.  It will take a dem president before the pubs sniff a majority again.

No chance.  If we have a DEM Congress along with a DEM president they WILL implement amnesty and grant asylum to mass migrants and there will be NO chance of a GOP being seated; seeing a GOP majority again would be a pipe dream.

Immigration is not the only legislation that comes up for a House vote. I would rather have someone who votes with the Republicans 98% of the time, than never at all.   Trump ridiculing those Republicans that lost is reprehensible and childish.

Crazy.  I don't like the moderate Republicans either but this is the worst possible outcome.  Trump can try to spin it but this is bad.

I believe the point that he was trying to make is had the GOP demonstrated a united front and stood by the President of their party, we wouldn't have lost the House.  I tend to agree.
