If you want to get through to liberals you have to argue within their frame. The left wants to let millions of poor people into the U.S every year while also wanting to create expensive safety nets to help the poor that live here. Those two ideas are completely incompatible for reasons so obvious even a liberal can understand. Try to start there. Don't bad mouth the safety nets. Explain that those ideas are impossible for cost reasons when you keep adding more poor people to the equation. These things can't work if you have too many people that are a net loss to the cost of the programs.
I need to tap into the collective knowledge of this informed TBR group. Everyone focuses so much on Obama's lies about keeping our doctors and our plan, I'm having a hard time remembering if he lied about how the bill would be presented to the public once it was crafted. Didn't he say something about putting the bill online and allowing sufficient time for the electorate to read it before passage? Did I just dream this? I can't find it, but I could be using the wrong search terms.
Nancy Pelosi’s Democratic majority in the House of Representatives was unable to pass their version of a healthcare law. Because all revenue bills have to originate in the House, the Senate found a bill that met those qualifications: HR3590, a military housing bill. They essentially stripped the bill of its original language and turned it into the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), aka Obamacare. The Senate at that time had 60 Democrats, just enough to pass Obamacare. However after the bill passed the Senate, Democrat Senator Ted Kennedy died. In his place, Massachusetts elected Republican Scott Brown. That meant that if the House made any changes to the bill the Senate wouldn’t have the necessary number of votes to pass the amended bill (because they knew no Republicans would vote for Obamacare). So Senate Leader Harry Reid cut a deal with Pelosi: the House would pass the Senate bill without any changes if the Senate agreed to pass a separate bill by the House that made changes to the Senate version of Obamacare. This second bill was called the Reconciliation Act of 2010.
Obama also said that the ACA would pay for itself...it didn't. He played a shell game with money from other agencies...to include $700 million from the VA to make it look like Obamacare was revenue neutral.
Obastard had no qualms about letting Veterans die while parked on waiting lists.
Obama hated America's foreign policy...he saw us as meddling interventionists trying to instill freedom in place of Socialist oppression all over the world...he viewed the military as the execution arm of America's foreign policy that he despised. So both had to be punished. We saw that in how he took a back seat to our allies and supported our enemies and how he tried and almost broke the armed forces.
