Legendary mobster Whitey Bulger found dead in prison

Notorious Boston mob boss James "Whitey" Bulger was found dead at a West Virginia prison on Tuesday, federal officials told NBC News. 

Bulger, 89, was reportedly killed at Hazleton Penitentiary, a federal prison where he'd recently been transferred, according to multiple reports. It is not yet clear why Bulger was moved.

The penitentiary where Bulger was killed is known as one of the federal system's roughest prisons, according to local outlet WVNews.

The former organized crime boss led the Winter Hill Gang in Boston, Mass., for years before he was convicted in 2013 of 11 murders across multiple states. He was also convicted of racketeering, extortion, conspiracy, money-laundering and drug dealing.

He was a pretty bad guy from all I read about him which is not much.

There are books out there on mafiosos or organized crime figures, I read 2, that's about all I needed to read.

“Whitey” Bulger, a notorious Irish mob boss from Boston who was found guilty of multiple murders, was killed in a federal prison in West Virginia.  Fox News reports:

    Infamous Boston mob boss James “Whitey” Bulger – who was a fugitive for 16 years, was sentenced to life in prison in 2013 and was portrayed in film by Johnny Depp – was killed at a West Virginia prison on Tuesday, the day he arrived at the facility, multiple reports say. He was 89.

    Bulger was killed at a West Virginia prison, according to the Boston Globe. He was transferred to USP Hazelton on Tuesday morning in Bruceton Mills. He was recently moved from a prison in Florida and had a stop in Oklahoma City before arriving in West Virginia.

BRUCETON MILLS, W.Va. — Notorious Boston gangster James "Whitey" Bulger was found dead in a federal prison Tuesday, nearly five years after being sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison, the Department of Justice said. Bulger was apparently severely beaten by one or more of his fellow inmates, law enforcement sources tell CBS News' senior investigative producer Pat Milton.

Officials with the Federal Bureau of Prisons say Bulger died Tuesday, the day after he was transferred to USP Hazelton, a high-security prison in West Virginia with an adjacent minimum security satellite camp. Bulger's death is being investigated as a homicide, according to a prison union official.

The monster was murdered at a federal pen in West Virginia yesterday at age 89 —  better late than never, I guess.

Was he murdered by a hit squad —  from the Mafia, maybe, or perhaps even the Deep State? Whitey knew where a lot of bodies were buried —  figuratively as well as literally. Those were the rumors anyway yesterday. ...

If ever a guy deserved to get it that way, it was Whitey Bulger. What goes around, comes around. Whitey sleeps with the fishes. They made a movie about him, sort of. It was called “The Departed.”
