If he tries to do so, it's going to be challenged in the courts, because the conflicting interpretation of 'birthright citizenship' falls under the 14th Amendment.  I don't believe he can amend the Constitution with an executive order. 

He keeps saying what he wants to do, but he needs to realize that he also has limitations.  Why doesn't he do what he's authorized to do?  As Commander in Chief he can STOP ALL migration into this country. He does NOT have to give those at our borders asylum and he has every right and authority to protect us from all enemies.

So Trump signs an EO, shows he’s serious, keeps his promises on fixing immigration. Then as a result we see an increase in republican numbers in congress next week.

There’s nothing to stop Congress from passing permanent legislation after that, if that really is what the republicans want, right?

Good point.   The right thing by the wrong means can come back to bite ya.   Conservatives should instinctively oppose government by executive order - especially an EO that purports to curtail a right in the Constitution.

We supposedly wanted an "outsider" and we got one, which means he's clueless as to what the Constitution says and what the parameters of his power are, as well as being ignorant as to what he actually can do.

Thus, he's not using the authority he does have, and being very Obama-like in using EO's to change things he has no right to change.

This means nothing, and will accomplish nothing.

Hell they can change parts of the 1st Amendment as well and it's 'interpretation'.

First of all, they will lose seats in the House.  Whichever side controls it, the majority will be less than 10 seats, in all likelihood.  If Dems hold the House, forget meaningful legislation through 2020.  If Reps keep the House, there are still enough in the pocket of the Kochs to assure compromised bills you’ll hate.

    When told that's very much in dispute, Trump replied: "You can definitely do it with an Act of Congress. But now they're saying I can do it just with an executive order."
