#Walkaway movement urges liberals to abandon Democrats

Furious former Democrats — fed up at the party’s leftward lurch — are banding together in protest under the banner of the #Walkaway movement.

The five-month-old online effort pushes the idea of abandoning a party that, members say, has become allergic to dissent and hostile to moderate voices.

“Democrats seem so angry, like they’ve turned hard left into socialism,” said Maureen Holland of Deer Park, L.I. “It’s very scary to me.”

“We’ve had a huge surge since the Kavanaugh hearings,” said Brandon Straka, organizer of the campaign, who says its Facebook group has grown to 205,000 members.

Holland’s is one of the thousands of testimonials posted to the page. She shared her joy at changing her party registration after 30 years as a Democrat on Oct. 17.

Straka, of Manhattan, sparked the group in June with a slick six-minute video testimonial that’s been viewed 385,000 times on YouTube.

The gathering at Freedom Plaza in Washington, DC, on Saturday was a stark contrast to recent rallies where people dressed in black and held signs disparaging President Donald Trump and members of his administration. 
The #WalkAway rally featured a sea of red, white, and blue-clad participants, waving flags, wearing Make America Great hats, and even bleep hats made infamous during the Women’s March were transformed into bright red, Trump-supporting headgear.

The success of a weekend of events to support Trump and Republicans ahead of the midterm elections on November 6 even impressed Brandon Straka, the former Democrat who launched the #WalkAway movement five months ago when he posted a video on his Facebook page urging others who are fed up with the failed policies and mob rule mentality of today’s Democrat Party to leave it.

“We planned a really, really amazing weekend that we hope is going to wake a lot of people up — open a lot of people’s eyes,” Straka said, adding that, no, he could not have imagined celebrating at Trump International Hotel with hundreds of other #WalkAway liberals and the conservatives who support them, dubbed #WalkWiths, on the eve of the march and rally.

“I definitely did not think when I released my video on May 26 that I would be standing in Trump International Hotel, wearing an ‘I love Trump’ top hat and tuxedo,” Straka said.

Breitbart News spoke with some of those who have joined the movement and traveled from as far away as California to take part in the D.C. event.

I have been branded a self-hating black, Nazi-sympathizer and rather astonishingly — a white supremacist.

The underlying sentiments are clear; black people are meant to think and act within the confines of what white liberals deem acceptable.

But while in the past the threat of slander has worked to lag the spreading of black conservatism, over this last year, I have observed something of the opposite effect.

In fact, what many have misdiagnosed as political tension between two ideologically disparate groups is actually something far greater, far more deep-rooted, and much more likely to alter the trajectory of this country as we know it.

Across America, black people are beginning to question political orthodoxy. We have been quietly building an ecosystem of free thinkers and at long last, the intellectual dam is breaking.

This unique moment will come to be known as BLEXIT: the black exit from the Democrat party.
