The latest count is 8 dead and 3 officers shot. Don't know if any cops are among the dead.

Report is that the perp is white man with a beard.   Irish Muslim?

Now, I've seen two references using the last name "Bowers" or even "Bauer", 46 year old white male.

Robert Bowers possibly as the suspect, is it wrong to post hearsay, one of the people saying this is in Pittsburgh, may be anti-Semite obviously, one post said anti-Trump too....sorry we are using identity distinctions.

I don't understand how you could support Trump if you were an anti-Semite.  Trump is very pro-Israel and has Jewish family members.

Can we at least wait till the official news  conference before we start speculating?  Bad enough national news can't agree on the number of people shot.  The numbers are all over the place.  Why believe anything any media outlet or someone on Twitter says at this point in time?

My former eye doctor was named Robert Bowers.  The name is common, so I wouldn't necessarily trust the guy the "online detectives" dug up is the shooter

I want to be informed, even taking into accounts that early reports might be wrong, if I see a few cases of people saying it because they are from the area or listening to police radio, why not? That's a bit more than just the derisive "online detectives".

Folks are trying to find screenshots of the perp's social media fingerprints that have all been scrubbed.  All of them apparently have a commonality in anti-Jewish/Anti-Semite comments.  But the guy's profile changes every site people are finding.

This breaks my heart, both as a sane person and as a Pittsburgher. Squirrel Hill is a beautiful old neighborhood.
I was out running errands and listening the KDKA radio. They say this Bowers was obsessed with Jewish immigration to the US - apparently he didn't want any more Jews in this country, or something.

There are 8 to 11 dead, still no official word.

The shooter was in a shootout with police on the 3rd floor of the building. They got him to surrender. He supposedly was injured. Three cops also wounded.

The president will have a formal statement at the FFA event to which he is headed. He spoke to the media and, among other things, said it's unfortunate to have to think this way, but perhaps not as many injuries would have happened had the temple had an armed guard.

 That really hit me, as Mr. M and I are armed members of our church security team. KDKA asked a rabbi whether he ever thought something like this might happen at Tree of Life, and he said he thought about it all the time. In light of the Charleston shooting where people at Bible study were killed, I think all of our churches and synagogues need to be prepared for such an event. I'll agree with Trump: it's sad that this is how we have to think.
