Sparks fly in Ohio as GOP Senate candidate accuses Sherrod Brown of spousal abuse

Rep. Jim Renacci, R-Ohio, charged Wednesday night that the Democrat he wants to replace in the Senate, Sherrod Brown, has a history of spousal abuse and therefore shouldn't represent the state in the #MeToo era.
Renacci said during a debate with Brown that if Democrats are going to argue that people like Justice Brett Kavanaugh shouldn't be able to hold federal office because of unsubstantiated claims of abuse or assault, then Brown himself shouldn't be a senator.
"If you're going to set a standard of conduct for unsubstantiated claims, you better start setting a standard of conduct for substantiated claims," Renacci said. "My opponent, Sherrod Brown, has volumes of records of substantiated claims of abuse, of spousal abuse, and the people of Ohio need to see that, look at it and understand it."
