O'Rourke: I had to be aggressive in debate to fight 'dishonest' Cruz attacks

By Brett Samuels - 10/17/18 03:30 PM EDT

Rep. Beto O'Rourke (D-Texas) said Wednesday he felt he had to be more aggressive during his second debate with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) to counter the incumbent's "dishonest" attacks.

"I became convinced after that first debate that I had to draw a very clear and clean and precise distinction," O’Rourke told the San Antonio Express-News editorial board in an interview.

O'Rourke disputed a number of claims Cruz has made, including that the Democrat wants open borders, legalization of heroin and favors higher oil prices. Each of the attacks are false, O'Rourke told the Express-News, and he worried that if he didn't assertively deny them, they'd gain traction.

O'Rourke went on the offensive in Tuesday's debate, marking a notable shift from his first debate with Cruz.

"He’s dishonest,” O’Rourke said of Cruz at one point. "That’s why the president called him 'Lyin’ Ted.' And that’s why the nickname stuck. Because it’s true."

He's so full of it...it's painful.  I've also noticed today in his political ads a huge sea change. He has switched from "Why can't we all get along" to-"I'm going to give you all free stuff".  Including expanding Medicade in Texas.

So how do you propose to do that O'Blarney...as a senator? Unless Lupe wins the governors race. Fat chance, imho.

He is  using the Obama play book of appealing to young voters with his skateboarding and playing instruments. Let's hope it doesn't work.

As cool as Beto is, if he'da challenged Cruz to a air drum-off he'd have the election in the bag by now.

  • Cruz 2016- a Constitutional Conservative at last!
There are many examples of dishonesty on the part of Robert Francis. DUI, leaving the scene of the accident he caused while DUI, burglary at UTEP, self-enriching eminent domain scheme while on El Paso city council, insider trading in his first year in the US Congress, taking over-the-limit foreign donations that have been tagged by the FEC, lying that his 38 mil comes from small donors in Texas. He's corrupt.

Cruz's attacks are 100% true. Robby is a full-blown socialist, except when it comes to himself.
