Sen. Elizabeth Warren has released the results of a DNA analysis showing she has distant Native American ancestry, which could pre-empt further questions and attacks should she run for president in 2020.
Warren first faced scrutiny for her purported Native American heritage during her 2012 Senate race. But President Donald Trump has revived and amplified the controversy as he eyes Warren as a possible rival, frequently mocking her with the nickname "Pocahontas."
But Warren now has documentation to back up her family lore, thanks to an analysis performed by Carlos Bustamante, a professor of genetics at Stanford and adviser to Ancestry and 23 and Me.
In a rollout video about Warren's heritage, the Massachusetts Democrat is seen sitting behind a laptop as she calls Bustamante.

"Now, the President likes to call my mom a liar," Warren asks him. "What do the facts say?"
Bustamante responds, "The facts suggest that you absolutely have a Native American ancestor in your pedigree." Warren is shown nodding.

The test, conducted by Stanford University professor Carlos Bustamante, a genetics and genomics expert, concludes that there is "strong evidence" that Warren's "DNA sample of primarily European descent also contains Native American ancestry from an ancestor in the sample's pedigree 6-10 generations ago," according the test's executive summary.

Six to ten generations ago?  She really thought it wise to make this public?  Even the Lumbee "indians" are five times more NA than her, and the government will not recognize their status.

This is deceptive in several ways. First, the term 'strong evidence' is shaky. This is the same as saying 'maybe, maybe not'. Also, saying that a person has genetic markers in common with Native American is dubious. Since Native Americans have a fairly wide spectrum of genetic markers in common with almost everyone.

Some Native Americans came from Mexico and South America. Some came from Asia. Some migrated from the Caribbean. I would bet that almost everyone who has been in America for a few generations has at least 'some' genetic markers in common with Native Americans. These results are political more than scientific. This is not a definitive result. She would get the same 'strong evidence' result if she was claiming to be a Jew, or a Mexican, or Chinese for that matter.

She has never had any tribal affiliation and as far as I know there is no documented evidence that anyone in her family has ever been affiliated with any known Native American tribe.

She must be a member of that unknown blond-hair, blue-eye, Native American tribe that nobody has ever seen or heard of. She is such a liar. And she keeps digging the hole deeper. Until she releases the full results to the public for analysis, then screw her (and the horse she rode in on). lol

It appears she didn't have a blind test in the sense that the person analyzing the sample didn't know her. When I sent my sample of spit to Ancestry.com, I was identified by a number.

It doesn't say she sent her DNA sample to 23 and Me, just that a guy who's an adviser to that company did the testing. So he knew it was Fauxcahontas' sample, gave her personal service and likely he knew what result she hoped to get. I suspect she rewarded him handsomely for this "finding."

Carlos D. Bustamante, the Stanford professor who analyzed Warren's DNA, concluded that 'the vast majority' of her ancestry is European. But 'the results strongly support the existence of an unadmixed Native American ancestor,' he wrote.

That forefather – or foremother – could have been between six and 10 generations ago, according to Carlos D. Bustamante, a Stanford University professor who analyzed the results.

That means she could be as much as 1/32nd Native American, or as little as 1/512th.

Where does this DNA test result leave us:

1. Warren still cannot point to any specific ancestor who was Native American.

2. Warren never lived as a Native American or associated with Native Americans.

3. Warren never claimed to be Native American until her late 30s.

4. Warren only used alleged Native American status for employment purposes, and stopped claiming that status when she got tenure at Harvard Law School.

5. There remains zero evidence Warren was a descendent of the Cherokee or Delaware tribes.

6. The DNA test does not prove Warren is Native American, at most there is “strong evidence” of a single ancestor dating back 6-10 generations, based on analysis that compares Warren’s DNA to numerous groups, including non-Native American groups.

7. The media headlines overstate the findings.

8. Warren almost certainly is running for president, and rolled out these findings in a highly controlled and slick production for that purpose.

No kidding.   She thinks proving she's 1/512th Justahoe is going to release from the fraudulent stealing of an Native American affirmative action spot in college admissions?

Well...in the eyes of her MSM fans it will.

Another thing about dna results.....   I got on the boat early at both FTDNA and Ancestry, and I can tell you the geographical and associated numerical  results have been akin to a dartboard, as much as they have changed.

Ha,ha,ha.....my wife had a dna test done a few years ago that said she had a black ancestor some time in the past 500 years.. We were thinking about how we could exploit the fact that  she might be about one percent black.
I'm telling you, it's just unfair how bad she's been exploited despite her STRONG!!! black ancestry.

I had myself tested by two different services - one found a central American marker and the other a south asian marker. Oh and neanderthal.

The credulous reporter who wrote the Warren DNA piece didn't do the math correctly (and this is before getting into why the particular test, which didn't even use American Indian DNA to compare, was garbage). Six generations removed is 1/64. Ten removed is 1/1024 (0.098%).

The report notes that to make up for the "dearth" of Native American DNA samples, Bustamante used DNA from Mexico. So all it proved is that she might be 1/1024 something other than WASP. Or, as James Woods tweeted:

My understanding, and I reserve the right to be completely wrong, is thqat to be recognized by the government you had to be at least 1/16th Native American in order to qualify for that status.
https://dna-explained.com/2012/12/18/proving-native-american-ancestry-using-dna/
Some tribes require as much as 25% Native heritage, and most require at least 1/16th Native heritage, which is one great-great grandparent.  If you don’t know who in your family was a tribal member it’s unlikely that you would be able to meet the blood quantum requirement.

Trump should have his own DNA tested.  Odds are probably pretty good he'll come back with as much Native American DNA as Warren.

These tests show results as percentages. I haven't been able to find any such detail on Warren's test. I'm thinking its because <1% would take the air out of this little PR ploy.

Exactly....

As both FTDNA and Ancestry point out, results of <1% can be due to background noise/contamination on the analytical results.  i.e ....zilch.

Actually the absurd report stated something in the neighbor of 1/512 th.   Basically unquantifiable

Especially with all the hedge language. May be as much as... Could have some forebearer...
It was very far from a definitive report. Any one of us would test 'at least' that much and likely much more. Speaking for myself, I'm not an albino scandinavian like she is.

Like everyone is saying, it is a bogus report which her neighbor's friend could have written. She just keeps digging the hole deeper. She can't help herself.
