Interesting idea about Trump @libertybele .  You may be right.  He might have thought that he could get things done easier once he was elected, but he has been disabused of that notion.

However, I totally trust that he cares about this issue deeply and will continue to fight for it.

He saw this issue as the issue that he could run on and win.  This issue has been brewing longer than even Bammycare.  He ran with it and sold himself as an outsider that could get the wall built.  Again, I don't think he realized at the time that he had to get approval.  It was obvious during his campaign that he did not know the ins and outs of governmental procedures, and also lacked constitutional knowledge.

I also believe he is smart enough to realize the financial impact illegal immigration has on our economy.  Therefore it affects his wallet as well.  He has a personal interest in getting the wall built and unfortunately it works both ways.  There are those politicians that are benefiting from illegal immigration.

We are very close to getting a complete border wall built.  Again, it depends on which party will get power during the mid terms.  Even IF the wall is built, there is nothing preventing the left from tearing it down at a future date.

Time will tell of course.

You are absolutely correct, it is a crime and those entering illegally should be punished, though I prefer to fingerprint them, log their stats and send them back over the border making it impossible for them to ever get into this country legally.

Our politicians have failed us on both sides.  Unfortunately, as I mentioned in the last post, those in the House hold the purse strings and they have to allow for $$ within the budget.  Too many people are under the false notion that all Trump has to do is order it to be built.  He does not have the authority.  I honestly believe that he himself didn't realize that until he got into office and then his eyes were opened.

I agree, after our 2nd amendment rights, nothing right now is more important than getting that wall built and stopping the invasion.  The invasion has been going on for decades and our politicians have profited handsomely.

Well I commented in your new thread about Kevin McCarthy.  This bill was supposed to be introduced this week.  So I am not sure why they are blaming him.  Seems like the blame game is the way out of doing anything.  Not Trumps fault.  Must be McCarthy.  It Congress.  All guilty but not guilty at all.

*bouche* If the rats take the House nothing passes until Trump is gone.  That is not what I want...it's just honest truth.

And if the GOP adds a few seats in the Senate and holds the House, the rats won't roll over and say "the people have spoken."  The wall is a punchline.  I get no satisfaction from saying so...I know you really want it, but you're dreaming.

I wonder what happened to this?  Not much I care about in politics these days.  Because the single issue that should be important to everyone is ignored.

I understand your point, but is there any single issue voter that can say their satisfied?   Maybe voters that care mostly about judges, but then McConnell deserves better than equal credit.  Drain the swamp/lock up Hitlery voters can't be happy with the lack of consequences for massive failure by Obama and Hitlery.  Replace Repeal Obamacare? a painful joke.  Right to life voters? our taxes still pay for PP.  Deficit hawks? OMG! Restoring American Respect? OMG! Build the Wall?  OMG!

I don't even know where we are now with immigration.  Has DACA been solved.  Sanctuary cities stopped.  Have we built more detention centers for the minors...or do we start digging troughs to bury them in?  Are you satisfied with your one issue?

My number one issue is taxes.  I make very little money and I want it to go to my family, but I look at taxes as a responsibility enforced by the might of the Federal government, and so I pay mine.  My President thinks I am stupid for this.  I wish I inherited a fortune from my daddy.

I am not happy with any of it.  In my state its immigration, property and local tax.  They are tied together.  And they keep going up.  I am tired of taking care of illegal immigrant families.  When I see them using their EBT cards at the grocery store., Wearing their name brand cloths.,  Getting into their top end vehicles it makes me mad.  We are way past the point of picking fruit.

Its a gravy train and we are being taxed illegally to pay for it.  Its an invasion and our Constitution says our government is supposed to protect us from invasion.

Well if it doesn't happen the train is taking off without me.  Its personal.  Its a personal burden in a Sanctuary state.

Illegal immigration costs 135 billion a year.  Common sense legislation that reduces debt.

https://thefederalistpapers.org/us/new-map-cost-illegal-immigration-state-2

The bill will die in the Senate where the GOP only has 51 seats. But it will be an issue that the GOP
can use to against the rats in the midterms. Give the GOP 5 or 6 more Senate seats and the wall,
immigration reform will pass next year. Nice to see you thinking about getting on the Trump train.
Trump is doing everything he can to secure the border/solving illegal problem. Vote GOP in Nov.

Perhaps I'm more satisfied with today's situation because I never expected our system's institutionalized deeply rooted problems, decades in the making, to be solved in one president's first term, let alone his first two years. Maybe I'm too easily pleased but I'm just tickled pink we seem to be turning around and seem to be almost pointing in the right direction. Especially considering how close we came to hitting the gas on the road to full blown global socialism.

I should add I'm happiest for you all. Because living here in CA I'll not get to enjoy any of the benefits of the federal government's change of direction.

While I agree they waited too long I am not going to assume Democrats will control the House.  They should have done this months, or a year ago.  They wait till right before midterms.  We wouldn't be worrying about midterms had the GOP taken care of illegal immigrant business.  I believe that is the biggest issue with voters.  It certainly was the main issue with Trump supporters at his rallies.  Time to deliver is overdue.

Most voters agree with you. The GOP is making this an issue for the midterms. They will make the
rats own open borders, gangs, drugs, human trafficking, crime and illegal immigration. Then we
(GOP) will hold the House and gain seats in the Senate. The wall and immigration reform will pass
next year. Trump is learning how DC works and he is keeping his promises to the America people.

We don't see any benefit in Washington either.  Yes you are too easily pleased.  Border security should be easy.  Its a national threat.  An invasion that gets worse by the day.  We don't have time to be easily pleased.

Most voters do agree.  That's the thing.  They still do.  Trump had and still has the support of Americans to stop border crime.  Instead Trump is signing spending bills without the funds to secure the border.  Furthermore his close friendship with Lindsey Graham is a signal of weakness on his main campaign promise.  Lindsey Graham has continued to push for amnesty which never solves anything.

If Trump wants my support he is going to have to toughen up and fight for border security.

I told you before that I care deeply about this issue also, @Chosen Daughter but I think you are blaming the wrong person.  President Trump is the first President who has made this an important issue and even though there have been some stumbling blocks, I think he will continue to focus on it and eventually get it done.

Although, in my opinion it's not so much about a wall as about an attitude.  We can stop it by supporting ICE and being absolutely vigilant about deporting law breakers instantly.  We can stop giving benefits ... any benefits ... to illegals.  They are lawbreakers.  We can require companies to do that check thing and punish them if they hire illegals.

But please cut President Trump some slack ... he's really our only hope in this matter.
Against stupidity, the Gods themselves contend in vain.

Most Americans do care deeply.  But caring and sticking it to law makers who ignore it are two different things.  There has to be punishment for not enforcing our laws.

I am not being too hard on Trump.  He has gotten weak at the knees in all of the funding bills.  People may not like a government shut down and that is all the more reason for it.

Think what you want @Chosen Daughter but Trump is still the only President who has brought this issue to the fore and has pushed it hard.  Some of his executive orders regarding travel were voided by Obama leftover judges.

Actually I do give him credit for that.  I also give Jeff Sessions credit for fighting for border security.  But the crisis is huge.  Mexico is not only a financial burden to our citizens but is a danger.  They have absolutely no control over Cartels.  Essentially they run the Country.  We can't merely work toward border security.  It needs to be done now.  Its like getting to the toilet and not being able to deliver.

In other more famous words..........shit or get off the pot.

Mexican Cartels ‘Absolutely’ Control the Southwest Border, Says Sheriff

By Charlotte Cuthbertson

June 19, 2018 Updated: June 19, 2018

PHOENIX—Every time politicians and media discuss border security, one particular group of people is paying very close attention: Mexican cartels.

“Because across the border in Mexico we have a complete, organized, criminal business of trafficking humans and drugs into the United States,” said Sheriff Andy Louderback of Jackson County, Texas. The cartels “absolutely” control the southwest border, he said.

“Every day, every minute, some penetration of the Texas border, California border, New Mexico border, Arizona border—every minute, someone is preparing to send a load in, or traffick humans in, or some type of criminal activity is going on. Every minute of every day. That’s their job, that’s what they’re committed to do, that’s how they get paid. And that’s what we’re up against.”

The cartels control the trafficking routes throughout Mexico and the entry points, or plazas, into the United States.

This may run against the grain, but the only reason I see to support the Pubs is the Rats are lunatics. If the Rats were even half way rational I wouldn't support the Pubs.

The Pubs failed me on obamacare. They failed me on immigration. They only got temporary tax cuts passed. They have done well on judges, but that's about it. They've lied to me at every turn. The immigration push now is just to force the Rats to show their hand (open borders) before the election and possibly help some Senate and House Pubs.  All the good things that have happened can be attributed to Trump.

Sorry to deflate your enthusiasm, but the GOP has had the majority for the past several election cycles even before Bammy stepped down.  Where's the wall???

Yes, there is a slim to none chance of getting a wall should the GOP retain their majority and an absolutely zero chance if they don't.

I'm always amused with threads like this, because I promoted the concept of a physical border barrier between the U.S.A. and Mexico before almost anybody else.

The actual construction -- even in rugged areas -- would not be particularly difficult.
Look at the places they put up those "sound barriers" along the interstates.

Just make the border wall like them, about 35 feet high.

Could be built within 2-3 years, if enough resources are committed to the project.

And if there's a shortage of American citizen labor to get the job done, I'd like to throw this at ya:
Citizenship for any "illegal" who signs on to work on the project, and completes a basic set of requirements in doing so.
Do that, and there will be NO problems securing enough laborers.

Its all about politics.  They don't care how dangerous or expensive it is to ignore the borders.  To ignore the criminal cartel business on the border.  Its about votes and increasing populations to increase congressional seats.

Exactly right.  Too many politicians on both sides of the aisle are making money over the corruption happening at the borders.  If not we would have had the wall long ago and amnesty wouldn't be an issue and the immigration laws would have been revamped long ago.
