The nomination of a textualist judge is the proper move in order to potentially reverse decisions like Roe v. Wade and hand the abortion issue back to the states "where it belongs given the Constitution’s silence on the matter," according to the editors. They add, however, that Brett Kavanaugh is not that judge, given the current circumstances.

Odd considering Kavanaugh wasn't close to the strongest candidate on abortion. Even suggesting it was "settled law"....

WHERE WE STAND ON JUDGE KAVANAUGH'S NOMINATION:

I have repeatedly said Judge Brett Kavanaugh is one of the most highly qualified people who has ever been nominated to serve on the Supreme Court. I doubt any person nominated to the Court has ever been looked at as closely as Judge Kavanaugh.

I personally know all I need to know about this fine man who is incredibly capable and qualified.

I am ready to vote on his nomination now.

Having said that, I respect my colleagues who have requested the supplemental FBI investigation, which will be limited in scope and time. It can be done quickly and then we will be able to move forward to an up-or-down vote in the Senate next week.

I’ve never felt better about the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh than I do right now.

The FBI wrapped up the Anita Hill investigation in 3 days.  Let's just hope they keep it to the scope of the baseless Ford allegations and wrap this one up quickly also./

Kavanaugh is obliged to follow the law per being a judge on the lower court. This may be where Moore ran into problems, unilaterally establishing law on his own. Kavanaugh has also said Supreme Court can overturn precedent.

In the end, it was up to the voters of Alabama and in a very red state, the good people of Alabama did not show up to vote for Moore.  Blame DC all one wants to.

I don't know all of the legalese but it seems the members of the Alabama Supreme Court removed Moore.

Removal:

The COJ had several disciplinary options, including censure or suspension without pay, but because Moore's responses had indicated he would defy any similar court orders in the future, the COJ concluded that "under these circumstances, there is no penalty short of removal from office that would resolve this issue."[49] Moore was immediately removed from his post.

On reading the wikipedia page on Moore, too, I would not forget, he ran for statewide office previously. He did not win those times either.  It appears, and there is nothing wrong with this, he is not that popular statewide in Alabama.

On August 27, the monument was moved to a non-public side room in the judicial building.[45] The monument was not immediately removed from the building for several reasons—pending legal hearings, the monument's weight, worries that the monument could break through the floor if it was taken outside intact, and a desire to avoid confrontation with protesters massed outside the structure. The monument was not actually removed from the state judicial building until July 19, 2004.[46]

What if you have a judge who unilaterally determines marijuana should be made legal? I'm sorry, whether I agree or not on what a judge says, at this point, we basically follow a hierarchy of laws, it be on same sex marriage and so forth.

Maybe Moore's fellow judges were wrong to remove him, that's above my pay-scale. I'm just saying what happened and he made previous runs for Statewide office, those did not fair well.

I believe this is the strategy, but the Republicans haven't been very effective, so not entirely sure this will work. And of course, waiting for more false accusations to emerge which will muddy things further.

But..... it's the Democrats' play... not the GOP's.  It is NEVER a good idea to make a play your opposition (enemy) wants.

I'm at the point (let's just end this insanity) where I think the GOP should just have the damned vote.  Let the RINOs risk going on record against Kavanaugh at their own risk.   This should have been done yesterday, while emotional pro-Kav sentiments were at the highest levels.  Now?  Lost opportunity, IMO.   If the vote failed, Trump could downplay it and wait until Congress is in recess (yeah, Fish...) to appoint Kav.  Sheesh.

Once Moore got the nomination,  they should have been behind him.  If you don't like him, simply primary him out next time,  but the time to get rid of Moore was in the primary and it didn't happen.  But you never reward a Democrat for GOP stupidity, no matter what.
