All of this is but a show to push the Pubbie "fence sitters" (Collins, Murkowski, Flake) off to the left side.
Without them, it will fall to Manchin, Heitkamp, and that Senator from Indiana(?)...
I remember last week speculating that the chances of confirmation (via the route we're currently going) were only about 40-60 in Judge Kavanaugh's favor.
As of this moment, those chances seem to be no better.
Like the broken record (CD?) I will offer this once again:
- Postpone confirmation for now
- Engineer a "Senate recess" (surely McConnell can arrange this)
- Mr. Trump can then recess-appoint Judge Kavanaugh to the Court
- After the new Senate convenes in January, vote (without Flake and that guy from TN).
