A Republican senator denied Sunday members of his party are trying to expedite Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the Supreme Court before the November midterm elections.
Democrats have criticized Republicans for their handling of a sexual assault allegation against President Trump’s nominee, accusing the GOP of not taking the time to fully vet Christine Blasey Ford’s accusation.
“There’s no rush here,†Sen. David Perdue, R-Ga., said on NBC's “Meet the Press.â€
“Look, if we don’t get all the information this week, I have total confidence that Sen. Grassley will take his time and make sure we get all the information we need,†he continued. “There is absolutely no rush to judgment.â€
Republicans have so far refused an independent investigation into Ford’s accusations that Kavanaugh forced himself on her at a party more than 30 years ago when the two were in high school. Kavanaugh has vehemently denied the incident occurred.
The Senate Judiciary Committee and Ford’s lawyers reached a tentative deal on Saturday for the California professor to testify about her allegation on Thursday.
“I hope that we will get to the truth,†Perdue said.
