China is just partnering with other countries on infrastructure projects ‘to grab their assets’, says US agency that oversees financing for international development

The head of the US government’s international finance development agency has stepped up criticism of China’s overseas investment strategy, dismissing Beijing’s efforts to give it greater legitimacy by partnering with other countries on infrastructure projects and accusing China of being “in it to grab their assets”.

Pushing back against international criticism that China’s finance model is predatory and smothers recipient countries in debt they cannot pay, Chinese officials and state media have recently scrambled to play down the geopolitical nature of the “Belt and Road Initiative”, instead focusing on sustainable development and job creation for recipient economies.

But Ray Washburne, president and CEO of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) – an intergovernmental agency that channels US private capital into overseas development projects in the form of loans, funds and political insurance – said on Wednesday that China did not appear to be changing its modus operandi.
My 'Viking Hunter' High Adventure Alternate History Series is FREE, ALL 3 volumes, at most ebook retailers including Ibooks, Barnes and Noble, Kobo, and more.

In Vol 2 the weapons come out in a winner take all war on two fronts.

Vol 3 opens with the rigged murder trial of the villain in a Viking Court under Viking law to set the stage for the hero's own murder trial.

Anyone remotely aware of the history of China, will know:
* they have NEVER been nor are they a world power.
* their Dynastic heritage from the Shang to the Manchu in 1912, lasting some 3,500 years
followed by several Dictators till Xi, has created an insular culture/society w/a real sense
   of inferiority among average Chinese.
* their propensity to cheat/steal rather than create/innovate should be unsurprising and is
   the residue of this complex.
* they are an economically backward nation/state as their dependence on coal attests,
   a third world energy source.
The economic/military power on the Pacific Rim has been Japan, for a long time.
Next time some jurno schmuck asserts otherwise ask him how did China do against Japan
in both Sino-Japanese Wars of the 19th and 20th centuries.
Be prepared long silence and a whole bunch of " um's.......

@Absalom

That's becoming more obvious by the day as China scurries around the globe and is rejected by 1st world countries.

Then hies itself off to the 3rd world, like Venezuela and Botswana to buy its way in.

We have the opportunity to stand, confront, and break them.

Unlike every 'Diplomat' before him this President is not backing down but relishing the fray.

Indeed Benefit.
While Trump certainly has his warts, he will never be confused
w/those preening and strutting jackasses w/label politicians.
To his credit, history not pious sanctimony appears to be his teacher.
And our nation is far better for this.
