WASHINGTON-The number of Americans filing applications for new unemployment benefits fell last week, remaining at a half-century low for the second-straight week.

Initial jobless claims, a proxy for layoffs across the U.S., fell by 1,000 to a seasonally adjusted 204,000 in the week ended Sept. 8, the Labor Department said Thursday. This is the lowest level since December 1969. Unemployment benefit applications were near this level last week too.

[...]

Data can be volatile from week to week. The four-week moving average of claims, a steadier measure, fell 2,000 to 208,000, also the lowest level since 1969.

Like everything else in government, it's manipulated bullshit.

How many people having left the workforce under Obama, have returned?

Case-in-point - The Labor Department's "Household Survey” is showing a net loss of 1.47 million jobs year-over-year and a Labor Force reduction north of 2 million

We used to understand as Conservatives that the employment report is one of the most manipulated economic reports issued by the Government, and it has been since long before Obama.  The data that everyone in the financial media, Wall Street and the Trumpian horde ignore is at the top of the BLS’ report:

The “civilian labor force”declined by 469,000 people in August from July. The number of “employed” dropped 423,000. The “not in labor force” increased by nearly 700,000. Yet Government claims that 201,000 “jobs were created” in August.  The media say the “economy created more jobs than expected.”  Based on the numbers in the details of the BLS report, between the decline in the number of people employed and the decline in those not counted as part of the labor force, the economy shed over 1 million jobs.

And unemployment numbers?  We used to chuckle at the claims Obama made when crowing about how the numbers filing for unemployment dropping when we asked how many dropped out of the workforce altogether after 100 weeks of getting welfare.

It's not that I do not believe the government's numbers, but I do not believe the government's numbers.

Fart for freedom, fart for liberty and fart proudly.  - Benjamin Franklin

...Obsta principiis—Nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud, is the only maxim which can ever preserve the liberties of any people. When the people give way, their deceivers, betrayers and destroyers press upon them so fast that there is no resisting afterwards. The nature of the encroachment upon [the] American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Like a cancer, it eats faster and faster every hour." - John Adams, February 6, 1775

Fake news (just quoting Trump when Obama used Adjusted U3 numbers).

U6 is nowhere close to a record.
