President Trump on Wednesday said "nobody is going to come close" to defeating him in the 2020 presidential election after criticizing The New York Times for publishing a deeply critical op-ed written by an anonymous author who the Times said was a senior official in his administration.

"We’ve done more than anybody ever thought possible in, it’s not even two years," Trump said while addressing reporters at the White House during an event at which he spoke to sheriffs from across the country.

"We’re doing a great job," Trump also said. "The poll numbers are through the roof.”

Trump spent several several minutes Wednesday listing his administration's accomplishments. He pointed to economic growth, the creation of manufacturing jobs and the unemployment rate, saying the "unemployment picture in the country is the best its been in 49 years."

“Then you go into all the benefits we got from the tax cuts,” he added, prompting an applause from the sheriffs.

I really wish he wouldn't do that (be the Trump...lol).   I cringe and shudder a bit when I witness someone being over-confident and cock-sure of something that they really shouldn't be taking for granted.  ANYthing (and I mean that literally) could happen between now and 2020.  I put nothing past the DemocRats... judging from past experience (ie collapsing the economy so they can blame it on their opposition and win the next election or two).

For my entire adult life, I've believed in the sanctity of the democratic process, and how we all have to abide by the results of an election even if we don't like the result.  Because that's the core of the democratic bargain.  The chance of your guy winning the next time is what induces people to respect the results of an election they don't like.

The Democrats -- and not just the Democrats, either -- have basically tossed that out the window.  Apparently, believing that someone is "unfit" for the office to which they were duly elected has become sufficient justification to do whatever is necessary to prevent them from finishing their term.  They are no longer willing to respect the results of elections.

So, I'm with you.  Screw the rules, screw fairness.  It's all about keeping power now.
