White House looking at candidates to replace Jim Mattis: Report

White House officials are considering potential candidates who could take over for Defense Secretary Jim Mattis once he leaves his post, according to a report Wednesday.

Although discussions have been ongoing for weeks, derogatory remarks made by Mattis about President Trump that appear in veteran journalist Bob Woodward’s upcoming book, “Fear: Trump in the White House,” have intensified speculation about when Mattis could leave his post and who would replace him, the Washington Post reports.

“The speculation about who replaces Mattis is now more real than ever,” a senior White House official told the outlet. “The president has always respected him. But now he has every reason to wonder what Mattis is saying behind his back. The relationship has nowhere to go but down, fast.”

According to excerpts of Woodward’s book, set to be released on Sept. 11, Mattis said Trump behaved and had the understanding of "a fifth- or sixth-grader" after Trump questioned why the U.S. had such a large military presence on the Korean Peninsula. The book said Mattis was one of several senior advisers concerned by Trump’s actions on multiple occasions.

If Mattis wastes his valuable time reading Woodward's book, he should be replaced.

But he doesn't and he won't be unless he decides it for himself.
Against stupidity, the Gods themselves contend in vain.

This is unbelievable.  If you read the articles linked, there isn't any news or report underlying any of this.  To quote the source WP article:

Well before this week’s revelations about President Trump’s interactions with Defense Secretary Jim Mattis in Bob Woodward’s new book, officials inside the White House have been actively discussing who will replace Mattis at the Pentagon — whenever he might step down.

Of course, in light of Woodward’s reporting that Mattis told associates Trump “acted like — and had the understanding of — ‘a fifth- or sixth-grader,’ ” internal speculation about Mattis’s potential departure has intensified. (Mattis issued a statement Tuesday calling the book “fiction.”) Many officials inside the White House and around the administration had already expected that Mattis would leave his post sometime over the next few months, completing a respectably long two-year stint at the helm of the Defense Department.

“The speculation about who replaces Mattis is now more real than ever,” said a senior White House official who was not authorized to speak about internal matters. “The president has always respected him. But now he has every reason to wonder what Mattis is saying behind his back. The relationship has nowhere to go but down, fast.”

This is literally nothing more than some people speculating that Trump might want to replace Mattis because of the allegations in Woodward's book, which Mattis already has denied.  There is no inside source or leak that this is even being considered by Trump.  It is literally pure speculation/assumption being passed off as news.
