Former Republican senator Jon Kyl will return to Capitol Hill to succeed the late Sen. John McCain, his widow Cindy said Tuesday.

"John Kyl is a dear friend of mine and John’s," Cindy McCain said on Twitter. "It’s a great tribute to  John that he is prepared to go back into public service to help the state of Arizona."

Kyl was the GOP Whip for a number of years, and also served as Kavanaugh’s escort or “sherpa,” as the Senate sometimes calls it, when taking Kavanaugh around to meet with senators.

He was also absent at confirmation hearing on Tuesday.

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey is scheduled to unveil the 76-year-old as McCain’s successor at a 10 a.m. news conference at the state capitol, according to the Arizona Republic.

Well good. So the McCain era really is over after all. A year from now, The Senator of AZ before Kyl, will be a Jeopardy question. And that is a good thing.

I just watch a video of some turkey with a press pass walk up to the podium and say he would vote against every thing Trump is for then walk away.  (it wasn't kyl)

Kyl is great!  I really liked him when he was Senator before.  Jeff Flake won his seat when he retired 6 years ago.  Do we have a story about the Governor announcing it?  I don't want Cindy McCain's word on it.  This story ma have it, I haven't read it yet, I just saw the headline and your ping.

I just came from that link.  I saw Ducey officially announce it's Jon Kyl.  I have met him, great guy and I am extremely happy right now.

He's honestly the most logical pick.  Dems may try to attack it, but that's almost impossible.

The people of Arizona already voted to send him to the Senate three times, and was never voted out -- he retired on his own.  So he's got as much legitimacy as it is possible to have for an appointed seat, and he's a very solid conservative.  Hopefully, he'll give an endorsement for his replacement, and it'll be someone with similar views.

It is weird that it took the literal death of John McCain before Ducey would allow Arizona to have two Senators again. I have no idea what all this bowing to the McCain guy was all about but I'm glad it is over. Who was that guy anyway, that he could hang up the entire country for months just because he did not want to let go of his seat?

Ducey could not appoint a new Senator until McCain kicked the bucket.  Who is this guy?  I think we all know, we heard the eulogies Saturday.

McCain figured the country would grind to a halt whenever he quit.  On the contrary, his replacement is a tangible improvement.  Kyl had a 97 rating from the ACU.
