President Donald Trump slammed AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka early Labor Day morning, accusing him of speaking against working people and the United States in a weekend TV appearance.

"Richard Trumka, the head of the AFL-CIO, represented his union poorly on television this weekend," Trump tweeted. "Some of the things he said were so againt [sic] the working men and women of our country, and the success of the U.S. itself, that it is easy to see why unions are doing so poorly. A Dem!"

On Sunday, Trumka criticized Trump during a Fox News interview saying the president has not done enough for the nation's workers.

“We said when he [Trump] was elected that when he did something good for workers, we’d support him,” Trumka, who leads the country's largest group of labor unions, told “Fox News Sunday.” "When he did something bad for workers, we’d oppose him.”

Trumka said that while employment figures are good, wages are down and gas prices are up, "so workers really aren't doing that well."
