'She's grieving': Lindsey Graham defends Meghan McCain's Trump-bashing at memorial for her father
by Daniel Chaitin
 | September 02, 2018 09:20 AM

Sen. Lindsey Graham, S.C., says it is "okay" that Meghan McCain took thinly veiled swipes at President Trump during this weekend's memorial service for her father, Sen. John McCain.

A close friend of the late McCain, Graham explained on "Fox News Sunday" that it should be no surprise that a loving daughter should rebuke a president who often feuded with her father.

"If you say something bad about Megan's father, you will know it, she didn't like it. So it's okay. She's grieving," Graham said. He added later that the memorial was a "civic lesson" for everyone, "including President Trump."

I don't care if she is grieving or not.  We've had two funerals of big name people that were turned into political circuses.  Shameful.

Unfortunately, those who decided to use these occasions to air their political grievances don't have any shame.

So glad I'm not a VIP.  I already said when I go, just put me in a pair of jeans and a ratty old t shirt.  No pomp and circumstance either.  Just throw my body into a coffin and place it in the crypt.  If someone wants to say a prayer, fine.  If not, also fine.  And if there is any money left in my retirement fund, throw a party with music and dancing.  No tears, real or fake.  Just live it up and have fun.

I would give Meghan a pass for that one occasion because people act in funny ways when in high emotion.

Funny manner of grieving. Are you sure she’s not posturing?

Lindsey goes along to get along sometimes.

He's said good things about Trump as well in the recent past. I'm not going to jump on his case in this situation.

Noting Graham's own grieving cut short, to get Sunday shows studios as usual.

Filling in for his good friend John, and himself too.

Too bad Palin and Trump didn't play golf together.

I don't think this was based on "high emotion."  These speeches -- the whole political circus -- they were planned in advance.  Maybe Meghan's speech was even written for her.  There was no emotion here except hatred.

Oh. So the broad hamming up a tearless cry needs to grieve by making embarrassing speeches about people who aren't even there.

Meg is going to discover very quickly, that now that her usefulness to the liberals has come to an end, she's going to be just another 'vile Republican' to them.

@Once-Ler, so Wellstone's funeral part two was a good thing to do?  Multiple speakers at McCain's thought so, too, so you're in good company.

I don't care who you are, or what side of the political aisle you're on (or pretend to be on)....

political posturing, sniping, ankle-biting and attacking your opponent at a funeral is bad form and low class.

Nice that these folks are showing who and what they are, though.

@Cyber Liberty It was a very nice memorial for a war hero, and IMO the most important and influential non-presidential political figure of my lifetime.  Watching this board condemn the GOP Presidential nominee of 2008 is instructive to how badly damaged and dysfunctional the GOP is today.  The party also deserves a funeral with idiots dancing on it's grave.

McCain's funeral is done.  You may now get over it. :seeya:

Sounds like you never will, though.  And I don't consider an American war hero as someone who got shot down and caved into the commies by making anti-America propaganda tapes.  I'm just funny that way.

McCain was, however, no doubt considered a "war hero" to the Viet Cong and to the America-hating Democrats.

There hasn't been this much mourning in Vietnam, since Ho Chi Minh died.

It will be the same for NVA war hero John F'n Kerry.

If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

Such a contrast between McCain and Jeremiah Denton.
