President Trump on Friday said that he was canceling plans for a military parade, blaming a $92 million price tag and local politicians in Washington, D.C.

The cost of the parade had appeared to be escalating, with reports on Thursday estimating it would be $80 million more than previously estimated at a time of rising debt.

Trump said "local politicians" in D.C. were responsible for the cost in announcing the cancelation, thought he offered no specific evidence.

"The local politicians who run Washington, D.C. (poorly) know a windfall when they see it. When asked to give us a price for holding a great celebratory military parade, they wanted a number so ridiculously high that I cancelled it. Never let someone hold you up! I will instead attend the big parade already scheduled at Andrews Air Force Base on a different date, & go to the Paris parade, celebrating the end of the War, on November 11th," Trump wrote.

"Maybe we will do something next year in D.C. when the cost comes WAY DOWN," he added. "Now we can buy some more jet fighters!"

I love how he just rubbed their noses (DC leftists) in the fact that the $92 million will just go to beef up the military....since they balked at spending it for the parade......lol!!!    That's a win-win, IMO.

   Most here that advocate this Parade crap have probably never been in the Military. Marching in Parades is the last thing any enlisted Service personnel want to do, it always sucs, without exception.

I've never really understood the incentive.  It's what dictators and commie nations all do to show how powerful they are... as they spend the peon's money like it's growing on trees.  We can't afford it, don't need it (re: military support and pride) and have better uses for that $$$.

Finally something I agree with that Trump has done.   

However, he should never have suggested having a parade in the first place.  Trump was just jealous of what the French did on Bastille Day last year when he visited and did not want to be upped by the French in terms of military displays prowess - which is what matters most to him: the appearance and display of showmanship and spectacle.

But wait a minute - didn't Mattis just say yesterday that the projected cost amount was bogus?

So once again -  they tell us that the reports of the cost being 92 million is 'bogus' - but today they cancel the effort and Trump says he will use the 92 million for a fighter jet.

Most of the District of Columbia’s cost to host President Trump’s military parade would have come down to policing, according to a breakdown the city provided Friday.

The D.C. police department alone would have required nearly $13.5 million of the $21.6 million estimated cost to the district. Another estimate leaked Thursday put the total parade cost for the Trump administration at $92 million instead of the $10 million-30 million estimated earlier in the year, which would also have included transporting military equipment and personnel to the city.

Trump said Friday that the D.C. government was looking for a “windfall” payment from the administration to host the event originally planned for Nov. 10, which he then canceled Friday morning due to the price tag.

“When asked to give us a price for holding a great celebratory military parade, they wanted a number so ridiculously high that I cancelled it,” Trump tweeted.
