WASHINGTON (Reuters) - China’s military has expanded its bomber operations in recent years while “likely training for strikes” against the United States and its allies, a Pentagon report released on Thursday said.

The assessment, which comes at a time of heightened U.S.-China tensions over trade, was contained in an annual report that highlighted China’s efforts to increase its global influence, with defense spending that the Pentagon estimates exceeded $190 billion in 2017.

“Over the last three years, the PLA has rapidly expanded its overwater bomber operating areas, gaining experience in critical maritime regions and likely training for strikes against U.S. and allied targets,” the report said, using an acronym for China’s People’s Liberation Army.

Idrees Ali asserts an unsupported (operative word is likely)
tale of aggressive military behavior by China. Query to Idrees?
Give us both timeline and location of the last victory China
achieved in warfare against any military adversary?????

Duhhhh! Was that supposed to be some sort of secret? That's what armies do. EVERYBODY's armies,including ours.

I can guarantee you that somewhere in the vaults of the Pentegram there is a locked drawer with plans for the US invasion of Finland.

Not only that,but there are people updating it occasionally.

These are CONTINGENCY PLANS,not active plans. After all,why would China want to threaten the largest source of their income?

Making it impossible to aid Taiwan might be enough reason.

@endicom

We have been aiding Taiwan ever since the end of WW-2. I haven't been paying any attention to Taiwan,so it is possible we are no longer supporting them,but I doubt it.

@thackney

Thanks. Looks like Bathhouse Barry shut down aid to Taiwan to help his comrades in China.

...Between the years 1951-1965 US assistance totaled roughly $1.5 billion USD, with over 24% of
that figure coming in the initial years of 1951-1954.6 US aid was split between project aid (20%)
and non-project aid (80%). Generally speaking, the amounts of aid that were authorized or
obligated did in fact become outlays or deliveries to Taiwan. Throughout the 1950’s and early
1960’s US aid averaged roughly $80-100 million USD per year. This dropped precipitously in
1965 and remained low until 1968 when all aid was finally delivered and no further aid was
forthcoming. ...

@thackney

Thanks for the correction,but I think someone fudged some numbers and dates. I am fairly certain we were still giving them military aide in the late 60's. Maybe they just changed the way it was budgeted so they claim they stopped giving it?

Washington (CNN)China is actively developing its fleet of long-range bombers and "likely" training its pilots for missions targeting the US, according to a new Pentagon report.

"Over the last three years, the People's Liberation Army (PLA) has rapidly expanded its overwater bomber operating areas, gaining experience in critical maritime regions and likely training for strikes against US and allied targets," the report said.

The "Annual Report on Military and Security Developments Involving the People's Republic of China" is a US government report mandated by Congress, which details Chinese military developments over the previous year.
