South America is a Warning to us All

Decided to redact this.
Might be too controversial. I don't really agree.
South America (at least a large part of it) is in trouble, but this guy seems to think it's due to "non-whites", when most of South America -is- of Caucasian heritage.

Down there, it's as much a problem of "culture" as anything else.

I've always thought the culture of a country has a lot to do with what country first colonized them.

Sure does.

The Spanish and Portuguese had a decidedly different way they implemented colonization vs the other Europeans like Britain.

The former were most interested in fiscal exploitation, intermarried locals to control the populace, with the colonizers within the system the higher caste.  A single religion, Catholicism, was forcefully thrust upon the natives.

Britain invariably did not intermarry natives but chose instead to limit their numbers, and not only did not force religion upon the colonies, but was the refuge of many separate aspects of Christianity that may have been persecuted elsewhere.

I concur.  The Northern Europeans were settlers looking for land and freedom from persecution (something that was frequently honored somewhat in the breach...like the Puritans).  Spaniards and Portuguese came for plunder.

Neither were entirely kind to the indigenous people.

Caucasian Heritage? What???
Their heritage/legacy was formed almost exclusively
by Indian tribal cultures such as the Aztec and Inca.
The Spanish presence endured for only 300 years.

Language seriously affects culture. When they all stop speaking Spanish or Portuguese, maybe I will agree that the influence has faded.

How many people speak Aztec? Olmec? Toltec? Inca?
Now tell me you can somehow express American Culture without English, or English Culture without it.

A culture is reflected in its language, without that language, the culture has aspects which cannot be fully understood.

Some points will simply not translate.

The Spaniards, and later the French destroyed many of the great codices of the indigenous peoples.

Burn out libraries, replace our language, and then tell me in two hundred years that the culture will be well preserved. You get real.

How many Mexicans can read this?
