Election analyst predicts Trump will lose GOP votes despite economy

Election analyst Henry Olson predicted on Monday that President Trump will lose many GOP voters in the midterms, despite the growing economy.

"I think the midterms are going to be about Trump's personality and the direction and values that Trump is projecting," Olson, a senior fellow at the conservative Ethics and Public Policy Center, told Hill.TV's Joe Concha on "What America's Thinking."

"I think you're going to see probably the lowest bump from a boom economy in Republican midterm figures that we've seen in the last 30 or 40 years, and it's all about Trump's polarizing personality and Trump's polarizing issues," he continued.

"There's a lot of Republicans who will say 'yeah, we have a good economy, but I'm just going to vote to get that guy out and to send a message that I don't like him.'"

The Labor Department said on Friday that the U.S. unemployment rate fell to 3.9 percent in July from 4 percent in June as employers added 157,000 jobs. The gains were lower than expected, with economists predicting payroll gains of about 190,000 for July. But the general trends have been positive, and the economy grew at a robust 4.1 percent rate in the second quarter.

You would hope.  But I don't trust the Republican Party to do any of those things.

I fully expect them to do as the Democrats want to do, because they have already shown us and said so - notwithstanding the GOP DHS budgetary backdoor amnesty attempt.

I will no longer vote for anyone in the GOP.

I'm not so worried about those voters who have actually been paying attention to what's going on. I'm worried about those voters in this country who are swayed by the liberal media and all those who have made it their mission to sink Trump even before he was sworn including members of his own party like John B.S. McCain.

We may be many, many generations away from a people suffering bondage who are ready to suffer what is needed to regain the liberty we, in this generation have discarded.

I don't trust them either.... but I feel, once again, forced to vote against the rabid left.  Getting REALLY sick, tired and FTFU with having to do that.... of feeling like I have to.  But if I do what I threatened to do before... ie opt out and just not vote... I will end up regretting it and blaming myself for the end result.  I can't handle the guilt trip, so I have to at least "try".

Olson is correct, except he needs to put Independents also on the list who will vote against Trump's Republicans.  Except for his base, people do not want his nasty tweets  invading their lives every time they click on TV to see the news.

Trump sees himself as an actor and he is acting a president's role.  Due to that, he must be on TV every single day, acting his part.  He did the same thing in his business.  He had a fake name and would call newspapers saying he was that man and telling them what Trump was doing so it would get in the newspaper that day.  He is the most fake actor in the world because what he says affects every nation in the world.

Wait until he has his great military parade just like other 3rd world countries - his own Kim parade with Trump on the reviewing stand just like Kim does. This Trump parade is costing millions to put together.  He has already spent more money than Obama did in his first two years.  We are paying every time he uses Air Force one to go to rallies across the country so he will be elected again.

Maybe,but *I* am guessing most of his "new voters" are going to come from people who thought the system was so corrupt/rigged they just quit voting years ago.

From THEIR (and my own) POV they will see the Party Pod People from both branches of the ruling party hating Trump,and see that as a damn good reason to vote FOR him.

BIG difference in a president referencing a foreign enemy at war with the US  in the derogatory, and quite another for a president to reference other Americans in the same manner.

Inciting a people to rage and violence against fellow Americas is what demagogues seeking power do.  Not statesman or a president.

Let the Left incite it themselves, we do not need the Executive to stoke it. For nefarious intents are from those whom do such.

I don't see him cuddling up to "Screw the Base. We Need to be More Like The Democrats" Karl Rove, especially in light of the defections such as #walkaway and others, since his own rising poll numbers are all based on his constantly Insulting and Berating the left.

On top of the money he's put in used to be unemployed folks pockets.
