Trump already had signed a military spending budget for fiscal 2018 AND fiscal 2019 to the tune of 1.3 Trillion:  300 billion MORE than the Pentagon asked for on February 9th of this year.

The 1.4 Trillion Porkulus Trump signed a month later had little to do with military spending, and everything to do with the Democrat agenda and funding all the government spending programs AND their projected increases to keep the government operating sans yet another kick the can CR.

I don't buy the bullshit : "we needed to spend 4 Trillion for the next two years to keep the military operating".  That's the bullshit lie you people keep using to justify spending like the Democrats.  Someday soon, the consequences of Republican and Democrats and Populists running up the debt is going to impact us Venezuela/Argentina-style.

The one point I have trouble with is since you are so ready to tell everyone that you're Not part of our Party, Bub, is why you're always here, since you'so much better than Us.

I'm here because I was invited and this is a Conservative forum - where you don't get booted because we don't tow the party line.  If those were the rules here, I would not be here.

Despite your seared conscience that I continually stab.

You go out of your way to Troll every thread you infest just to tell us We Don't matter because We're not conservatives at all, but You Are.

Proof is in the fruits.

That said, people like you matter very much to your leader and his party, despite the fact that what you cheerlead a good chunk of the time isn't Conservatism at all, but reconstituted Big Government Liberalism.

If We don't matter. Then why bother?

Why bother what?  Reminding you of what you pay lip service to?

Are you really that hard up for a hobby?

I have several going on at once as a matter of fact.  Discussing foundational principles necessary for liberty and bearing witness to their rejection is just but one of several.

There's cooking, home repair, gardening channels, . . . . Or maybe one of those clickbait escort services.

You know. "Attractive Asian girls seek romance with embittered old moralizing faux conservative men"?

You know, Projection is an ugly Alinsky thing to attempt to do to a person happily married for 32 years with two grandkids.  But hey - you guys are proving the Leftists are pikers in comparison in that department.

They despise and ridicule the people who remind everyone about morality and principles just like you do too.  You know, 'bitter Clingers' and all that.
Fart for freedom, fart for liberty and fart proudly.  - Benjamin Franklin

...Obsta principiis—Nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud, is the only maxim which can ever preserve the liberties of any people. When the people give way, their deceivers, betrayers and destroyers press upon them so fast that there is no resisting afterwards. The nature of the encroachment upon [the] American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Like a cancer, it eats faster and faster every hour." - John Adams, February 6, 1775

@To-Whose-Benefit?

We spends several times what China spends on military.

We spend more than the next 8-10 countries combined.

Trump's porkulus for the Democrats devalues our dollar.  If the Chinese had done that to us, you'd be screaming about the vicious attack on us by them...but when Trump and his liberal buddies in Congress do it to us, it's all roses.

I fear the Chinese.  But I think an even graver threat to us is the way we're spending money we don't have.  We can look down our noses at Venezuela, but it's not just socialists who can overspend their means.

I don't know why you let that get you bent out of shape. The small batch of dead enders wake up every day miserable and depressed because Donny is President. Just read their jive. That alone should make you sit back and chuckle at the diatribes.

Chuckle, especially since Trump has been steadily getting things done – stuff the Right has always called for and would normally endorse except they’re missing in action now that it’s Trump gettin’er done, the hypocrites. These are little people.

I'm not in 'your party' bub.  I took leave of it several years ago after serving it for over 30 with nothing to show for it but more liberalism pretending to be 'Conservative'.

Now if you simply want to silence everyone you disagree with, you know - use the government to silence us 'jihadists' - then why do you consider yourself any different than the rabid Leftists you pretend to oppose?

You are exactly alike.

Oh....I don't want to silence you, @INVAR

@Suppressed

Our unsustainable spending is the biggest long term threat to the economy and nation at large facing us. Forget any good economic news now. That could change quickly if those invested in our debt start becoming concerned that we may not be able to pay them back. That’s how the crisis in Greece and other countries started. And we have a public pension crisis  in states brewing. Our total debt to GDP ratio is over 100% and growing. And I find it discouraging that conservatives who rightly chastised the Obama Administration over that are silent, or worse, seem to support it going up under Trump.

Someone needs to teach him the meaning of the word “VETO”

I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

Why am I seeing nothing but "Predictions" of impending doom here?
I dunno.  Some on this board believe it is ok for China and others to continue dumping heavily govt-subsidized goods onto this country while prohibiting American goods into theirs with high tariffs and other restrictions.

Trump is calling this unfair and doing something about it.

Americans will be the winners when the dust clears.

Of course they support tariffs on foreign companies.  Wait until they learn these things don't happen in a vacuum and the opposing nations impose their own measures on their goods.  Their mirth will decidedly dwindle.
Just landed from Mars?

They already to impose high tariffs on US goods.  That, and heavily-subsidized products being dumped here are the reasons for Trump's tariff threats.

I agree that the days of the Chicoms dry humping us needs to end now.  I think economic conditions  might get a little dicey for the next few years, but it will be for our betterment in the long run.
Agreed.  Our tariff threats will cause others to drop their own tariffs on our products.

What is classic here is the way some on this board equate a tariff threat from Trump with an actual existing tariff imposed by foreign govts.

This is playing ball, and the hardball game begins when we actually impose our own tariffs instead of just threatening to do so.

I’m talking about retaliatory measures that will inevitably result from the current situation.

“China has made full preparation for the U.S. threats to escalate the trade war, and will have to retaliate to defend national pride and the people’s interests,” China’s Ministry of Commerce said in a statement Thursday on its website.

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/china-says-ready-retaliate-latest-093956750.html

(Reuters) - China's Unipec, the trading arm of state oil major Sinopec, has suspended crude oil imports from the United States due to a growing trade spat between Washington and Beijing, three sources familiar with the situation said on Friday.

Unipec and Sinopec, Asia's largest refiner and biggest buyer of U.S. oil, did not respond to requests for comment.

Well, the retaliatory tariffs on soybeans is already happening and has been serious enough to start the process for government relief. Just today, the Chinese have put a halt on US oil imports. We'll see what happens from there.

Don't forget the taxpayer bailout of farmers hurt by these tariffs that Trump has suggested.

The steel tariffs under Bush were in place for 18 months.  During that time, the steelworkers unions renegotiated their deal, due to higher profits from the companies.  Once the tariffs were removed and prices dropped, labor costs incurred layoffs.  During the time when the tariffs were in place, the companies that used steel suffered from the price increases.  There are more entities that use raw materials than those that produce it.  There was a huge net loss in jobs and economic output.  Tariffs are a sugar high.  When it's gone, you crash.

China places a 30% tariff on our imports. If an American opens a company in China, the communist
party of China owns 50% of it by law. China forces American to give up their intellual property if
they operate in China. China damn well does not exgage in "free trade" and neither should we when
dealing with China. We should treat Chinese businesses in the USA like China treats American
businesses in China. The very least we can do is put a tariff equal to the Chinese's tariff on
Chinese imports to the USA.

Yes.  To punish Americans in order to force them into buying those things only the government approves of.

Otherwise known as Fascism.

So we were a fascist nation up until the 1960s when we went the so called "free trade" route? Ridiculous.

OK A new F 15 in 1998 cost $29.9 M. A new F 35 today is between $60 to $100 M and a Gerald Ford class Carrier costs $12.8 Billion.

The Navy needs to kill the Gerald Ford Carrier class. It's got a lot of problems that are going to cost
billions more to fix. That program needs to die, the F-35 program should be greatly cut back maybe
even terminated.
