• The Wall Street Journal said that Weisselberg is considered a witness in the ongoing probe of Trump's ex-attorney Michael Cohen.

A federal grand jury investigating President Donald Trump's former personal lawyer Michael Cohen for possible crimes has subpoenaed the chief financial officer of Trump's company, Allen Weisselberg, to testify, a new report said Thursday.

The Wall Street Journal, citing sources familiar with the case, said that Weisselberg, who is an executive of the Trump Organization, is considered a witness in the ongoing probe of Trump's ex-attorney Michael Cohen.

Weisselberg, 70, was mentioned by Cohen in a conversation that Cohen secretly recorded with Trump in September 2016 that discussed buying the rights to the story of Playboy model Karen McDougal, who claims she had an affair with the president. The recording of that conversation was aired earlier this week by CNN.

Cohen is heard on the tape telling Trump that he needed to set up a company to make the payment, adding, "I've spoken to Allen Weisselberg about how to set the whole thing up."

All this would be history if Trump simply had said "ya, I was involved Stormy"... Many of his supporters would have liked him even more for doing a porn star...

Since they're digging into his businesses now, this could well explode with other sketchy transactions he's done. After all they can't ignore illegalities they happen to stumble across so they say...

There have been many cases, Valerie Plame is a prime example, where no crime was committed that leads to arrests for "crimes" of impeding the investigation, lying to investigators about something, etc.

Trump spent a lot money covering things up during the primary he didn't want made public. That's a fact. Having sex with a porn star isn't a crime as you said. Based on the recordings released, if they created a shell company to hide payments for the specific purpose of sideskirting campaign finance regulations, a case could be made there was a felony violation there.

Someone will likely take the fall for that. I suspect in the end it will be Cohen.

How those payments could constitute campaign-finance violations is simple: If they were made to help boost the president's campaign and keep damaging information hidden, it is an in-kind contribution to the campaign meant to benefit the candidate's political standing. The expenditure, which far exceeds the individual contribution limit, would need to be reported to the Federal Election Commission as a part of traditional campaign finance disclosures.
