Supervisors move to ban workplace cafeterias
« on: July 25, 2018, 02:51:11 pm »
New city tech workers dreaming of dining in workplace cafeterias may soon face a harsh reality — going outside.

Two city legislators on Tuesday are expected to announce legislation banning on-site workplace cafeterias in an effort to promote and support local restaurants.

The measure, proposed by Supervisor Ahsha Safai and co-sponsored by Supervisor Aaron Peskin, would adjust zoning laws to ban workplace cafeterias moving forward, but would not be retroactive.

Peskin said the measure, was inspired by tech companies like Twitter and Airbnb, which are widely known to have access to dining in their own buildings, depriving nearby restaurants of the dollars usually spent by nearby workers. The measure has the support of Gwyneth Borden, executive director of the Golden Gate Restaurant Association and other local merchants.

Under the legislation which is expected to be introduced Tuesday, “you can’t have an industrial kitchen in your office building,” Peskin said.

Peskin said the legislation sought to avoid the “Amazon effect that impacts retail and restaurants across the county,” he said. “This is forward thinking legislation.”

Oh, come on, thackney!  Get with the leftist program(ing).  It's highly productive for companies to provide an in-house cafeteria and ergo, a means whereby employees can .... rather than spending an hour or more going out for lunch.... grab a quick bite to eat (usually at lower prices), and get back to work within 30 minutes or an hour.  We can't have that!  That would be counter to and antithetical to the leftist agenda and ideology.

I'm guessing these in-house cafeterias are rather lacking in their beer/wine menu as well.

Yep, next they'll ban refrigerators and microwave ovens on the premises, and coffee makers, as well.

They are.  But most folks don't drink at lunch anyway.  At least... most of the folks I ever worked for or with.

Well, not any more.  But back in the 80's and early 90s....

I remember that the employee manual of my first career employer had an "allowable BAC" right there in black and white.  That's as unimaginable as a rotary phone these days!

Yep.

Most of my career was working for large (huge) energy corporations with rather conservative "rules" of ethics.  But I once worked (for 6 months) at a title company branch....(it was two blocks from home).... where the women in the office, including the manager, took 2 hour (or longer) drinking lunches about three times a week or more.   It was a circus.  I finally quit.

Next, they'll want to ban kitchens from all new residential construction:

And when they behead your own people in the wars which are to come, then you will know what this was all about.
