Why?

Because of the ridiculously lame and comical excuse they came up with and how he botched it.  He had one job - read the prepared statement.  Instead, he threw in the 'could be others' and 'a lot of people' garbage, negating what he just said.  He also crossed out the line about bringing the hackers to justice on the paper.  Every one of his advisors and aides saw the press conference, but somehow, it took them an entire day to correct the remarks with this pitiful 'blame it on a missing contraction' nonsense.

This is the strawman, though.  Nobody expected him to go “Chuck Norris” on Putin.  We just don’t expect him to say (via Twitter while in that country) that our terrible relationship with Russia is due to America’s foolishness.  Which prompted the Russian foreign ministry to respond  “We agree.”

Remember Goober being in charge of the World Bank cash funding going to Russia through a NYC bank? Remember billions showing up missing,and the only person found guilty was a young Russian woman in her 30's that was there to oversee Russia's interests? Neither Goober nor ANY of the US bureaucrats or bankers associated with that account were even given parking tickets. Billions disappeared,and were just forgotten about. There was also no followup on how long that young woman remained in prison after the dust settled.

And that is  just the tip of that iceberg off the top of my mind.

So their big counter punch was to put tariffs on the Item (soy) they desperately need from us.

China are well known currency manipulators.

Dumping our Treasury holdings is exactly what any tactician worth the name would expect from them.

It's called Asymmetric Warfare.

I didn't see the announcement, but if Trump said this I think he made a terrible mistake. By bowing to the pressure from the media, Rats and weak Pubs he's only encouraging them to increase their attacks on him. I still have doubts about the credibility of the intelligence community and federal law enforcement.

My thinking is Putin decided to show Trump that his 180 from the day before has consequences.

Because Trump believes and says whatever spews out of his mouth at any given moment he feels like vomiting it forth without any concern for the ramifications.  Either Trump cannot think ahead or he doesn't give a shit what happens as a result of his ever-changing positions.

I agree it looked really bad. Unless there's some underlying strategy - and I'm not sure what that could possibly be - he looked extremely weak yesterday.

All he needed to do was stand pat. His words during the Helsinki press conference no where near warranted the media reaction.
