An American tourist in Mexico City celebrating her first wedding anniversary was shot and killed by a bullet reportedly intended for someone else, reports CNN.

Tatiana Mirutenko, a 27-year-old who lived in San Francisco, her husband, and two friends were at a restaurant in the city’s Lomas de Chapultepec neighborhood at the time.

According to ABC News, local authorities say “she was struck when two men on a motorcycle fired at a man on the sidewalk.”

Very sad.  But incidents like these underscore the  dangers of visiting a rathole country like Mexico.  Why Americans persist in vacationing in Mexico makes no sense to me.

Happens in the US as well from time to time.  Should we all go to ground and not leave our houses at all?

You have a point.  But there are countries where violent crime is a national pasttime.  And good luck getting law enforcement to investigate and apprehend the killer.  In ratholes like Mexico, the police are part of the gangs.

In the US, there are certain areas you are wise to avoid.   Countries like Mexico, you are wise to avoid in their entirety.

You go to Mexico you take your life in your own hands. Yet every year Americans naively go down there and whistle thru the graveyard, then wail and wonder why one or more of them don't make it back.
