Systematic science review finds that ibuprofen is no better than placebo in treating back pain

Thursday, July 05, 2018 by: Isabelle Z.

(Natural News) It’s a familiar scene in TV commercials: A person, who is clearly suffering, pops an over-the-counter pain medication and like magic, they can suddenly return to their favorite activities as if nothing had ever happened, the expression of relief on their face palpable. But what if that feeling was actually all in their head? A new study shows that ibuprofen doesn’t work any better than a placebo when it comes to back pain, so it might not be necessary to take these risky pills after all.

According to a systematic review from the University of Sydney, the poor efficacy of ibuprofen in treating back pain makes its risks outweigh the minor benefits it may provide. The researchers reached their conclusion after looking at 35 peer-reviewed trials encompassing data from more than 6,000 patients.

What a load of BS.  I have a ruptured disk in my low back.  When stuff shifts out of place, the pain can be intense.  No placebo is going work as an anti-inflammatory to reduce the pressure.

So did I while pregnant with number one. Went to chiro, iced, increased water consumption. What two docs told me I needed surgery for, I healed w/o meds. That was ten years ago this summer, and (knock on wood) I’m still holding up fine. I know it’s not for everybody.

I don't know about that but it's THE knockout for menstrual pain.

Portable TENS unit is my go to. If I’m going to destroy my liver, I’m going to do it the good old fashioned way, not with ibuprofen  :silly: :silly: :silly:

Ibuprophen for headaches.

Aspirin for body pain.

That's what I do.

Acetomenophen sort of works for either.

Tylenol is the one to limit due to severe risk of liver damage

Tylenol is the only intiinflam that is NOT a blood tthinner

Tylenol is the only antiflame that does not inhibit bone growth

Yeah but all NSAIDS will give you ulcers and mess up your stomach.

My wife can only take Tylenol, as she has a bleeding disorder and IBS.

Twenty some odd years ago I found myself in an emergency room throwing up blood due to taking aspirin when I had a fever from the flu. I stopped taking aspirin for pain/fever.

Same here.

I would take Alka Seltzer for heartburn, which has aspirin in it.

One day I threw up blood. Didn't go to hospital but stopped that right away.

And for some, the results are different.

I used to have bleeding ulcers in college, due to stress and drinking to excess.

Today I typically take a 1300 mg, sometimes more aspirin every day without stomach problems.
