ST. PAUL, Minn. (Tribune News Service) — Stretching across the Minnesota state Capitol lawn, a replica of the Washington, D.C., Vietnam War Memorial attracted a crowd Thursday.

Its deep black panels in stark contrast with the lush green lawn, it lists the names of the nearly 58,000 U.S. military killed during the war.

Visitors on Thursday — some in Vietnam veterans hats — approach the wall with slips of paper and pencils in hand, rubbing over an etched name for a memento. They operated in silence.
