(CNN)The New York attorney general is suing President Donald Trump's charitable foundation along with its directors -- the President, his sons Eric and Donald Jr. and daughter Ivanka, alleging they violated state and federal charities law.

Attorney General Barbara Underwood alleges a pattern of persistent illegal conduct over more than a decade that includes extensive unlawful political coordination with the Trump presidential campaign.

The Donald J. Trump Foundation “was little more than a checkbook for payments from Mr. Trump or his businesses to nonprofits, regardless of their purpose or legality,” Democratic Attorney General Barbara Underwood said as she sued to dissolve the foundation and seek $2.8 million in restitution.

Whenever these things happen, I remember, Trump has been in the public eye for 40 years or more, he's been in business for a very long time. Why haven't these things happened before?  Why hasn't he been caught on these?

On the one hand you could say because he paid off the right people and wasn't a political threat then. On the other hand you could say that it's because he is a political threat now.
Or that even though he paid off the right people then, it's because he is a serious political threat now and potentially in the future. A few facts about this questionable suit: The Trump Family Foundation gave out more ($19 million) than it took in ($18 million); there are no expenses – $0, no salaries, no staff, nothing. It’s a family foundation with work handled by family members.

Now compare that to the Clinton foundation with 486 employees, also registered in NY, where only 3% of the monies were donated to the various causes: in 2014, revenue was $177.8 million with grants of $5.1 million and expenses of $91.2 million. But wait, there are more brow-raising figures at the link.

So, why is this new attorney general of NY not suing the Clinton Foundation and instead going after Trump now? Is she ignorant of the laws concerning charitable organization; or is she just another political animal taking the place of the disgraced former AG Schneiderman doing the work of the swamp. You figure it out.
