It's Trump's Republican Party now — and woe to any who object

By Mark Z. Barabak
Jun 13, 2018 | 11:50 AM

Mark Sanford blew up his marriage and became a national laughingstock when he sneaked off his job as South Carolina governor for a tryst with his Argentine lover.

After he forsook his presidential ambitions and spent time in political purgatory, voters forgave Sanford’s trespass and, in 2013, elected him their representative in Congress.

But on Tuesday, Sanford was tossed from office by his Republican constituents for committing a far graver sin: criticizing President Trump.

With his bulldozing personality, Trump has transformed the GOP from a party of anti-communist cold warriors to one that coos over North Korea’s communist dictator, from a champion of free trade to an instigator of trade wars.

This is foolish. If you want to lose then be for illegal immigration. Or against tax cuts. Or against reducing regulations. Or against stable energy production. Or striving to counter Iran or North Korea.

RINOs are losing favor.

The Republicans betrayed their base for the last 30 years time and time again.  They have forfeited any loyalty or legitimacy AFAIC.  The last 4 years alone have made it plain that they are just another party of Big Government Statism.   They are nothing but Liberals and have done more to hand the Left their agenda than the Democrats themselves were able to accomplish on their own.

Trump is welcome to make them his party of loyalists, but considering I want nothing to do with the liberalism that the Republican party has made their own, I no more am interested in Trump's NYC values imbued into the party than I was when the Oligarchy inside the Beltway did the same.

Offering up your vision of where the GOP should go and allowing the voters decide is a problem? He offered his, voters chose.

Of course its not as easy as the old way - simply pretending to be different from the other party but since whats done is done why not see where it leads?

Only when the voters agree with the President.   :smokin:

Sanford forgot the glass houses metaphor. When you've committed such a serious lapse in judgement, it's hard to criticize others for things far less serious.

Apparently he is a good conservative, he should have swam with the flow and worked with Trump in the things in common. He would have accomplished more.

Guess I'm not quite sure how Sanford would think it would work out good for him otherwise.

Where’s the Trump Wall?

Thus far the despicable GOP has refused to fund it. However Trump said he would not sign a budget
that did not fund the wall. We'll see how serious he is in Sept. I for one believe him.

So is the current occupant at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

Apparently that is the supreme talent absolutely necessary to possess in order to achieve political office in this country today.

Your way though is to do nothing and submit to radical Islam. Also, Ted Cruz has said he supported Trump in '16 and would in '20. I will go with his judgement.

Where do you come up with all your non-sequitur bullshit?  Who the hell said a damn thing about Islam on this thread?

So, in your assertion, if we do not vote for the GOP and Trump we're going to submit to radical Islam?

Really?

That somehow, if Ted Cruz decides to go play in traffic and swim with White Sharks off Guadalupe without a cage that we should 'go with his judgement' also?

I prefer a Coolidge/Goldwater GOP
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

The majority of whom are Republican.  If the party belongs to Trump, why can't he get the Republicans in congress to move forward on this and all the other promises he and they made to the voters?

Actually, your intention is even worse than TomSea's description...you want nothing less than to divide the Right half of the country in two, and hand permanent governance over to the Far Left in perpetuity.

As TomSea stated, your anti-Republican 3rd party Tomfoolery would surrender the country to every idiotic, destructive and socialistic fantasy of the extremists....universal health care, unfettered immigration at levels unimaginable today, 20$ minimum wages, deep restrictions on "free" conservative speech...think campus safe spaces essentially everywhere, the near total deconstruction of our military, taxation in the 90% range, a massive leftward shift of the judicial system at all levels, the end of small business, full worship at the global warming alter and the annihilation of our oil and coal industries...etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.

These are all the things that would be brought to us by the creation of a "pure" conservative 3rd party such as you propose...an act that would be akin to dividing one's military forces in the face of an attacking Mongol Horde. Such stupidity...even if directed by pure motives...must be seen as an act so heinously idiotic that it is in effect treasonous and a spit in the face of our Founding Fathers, our Founding Constitutional principles, and the very idea of classical liberalism as set forth by the "greats" such as Locke, Malthus and Adam Smith.

To conservatism, you are the anti-John Galt. To liberals, you are simply another of Lenin's useful idiots in that your actions advance their cause exponentially.

Its a free country, you and your "kin" are as always free to vote and advocate as you will...but a little honesty would be nice. Just acknowledge the obvious...you want to undermine and divide Republicans at the very moment when our President, who is governing as the most conservative leader this nation has seen since AT LEAST Ronald Reagan, faces a Leftist onslaught that seeks to attain permanent hegemony over our social, political and even religious lives.

You know, you can save on keystrokes if you would just join your ForeverTrump® lunatics and declare me an enemy of the people and the country.  It's the same difference, no need to get long-winded about what you actually intend to say without saying.

As TomSea stated, your anti-Republican 3rd party Tomfoolery would surrender the country to every idiotic, destructive and socialistic fantasy of the extremists....universal health care, unfettered immigration at levels unimaginable today, 20$ minimum wages, deep restrictions on "free" conservative speech...thank campus safe spaces essentially everywhere, the near total deconstruction of our military, taxation in the 90% range, a massive leftward shift of the judicial system at all levels, the end of small business, full worship at the global warming alter and the annihilation of our oil and coal industries...etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.

Well, submit that to the Commissar - and when you people have achieved whatever it is you think you are going to achieve, you can come with the agents of your state to bring me up on charges and attempt to do something about it.

These are all the things that would be brought to us by the creation of a "pure" conservative 3rd party such as you propose...an act that would be akin to dividing one's military forces in the face of an attacking Mongol Horde. Maybe you can get Trump to issue a Tweet outlawing third parties and making anyone who advocates for them a terrorist, traitor and criminal then.  That should please you.

To conservatism, you are the anti-John Galt. To liberals, you are simply another of Lenin's useful idiots in that your actions advance their cause exponentially.

Then do something about it to silence political speech you hate instead pounding away on keys on an internet forum.  I'm just laughing at you for all your bloviating.

Its a free country, you and your "kin" are as always free to vote and advocate as you will...

Well that contradicts your statement above that my actions on this board in advocating for a third party and getting Conservatives in the meat world to dump the Republicans are treasonous.

But a little honesty would be nice.

Your party has already done all that themselves.  I'm making the case that it is time for Conservatives to stop being the abused and battered wife to an adulterous and Statist party of the Oligarchy - and, in the meatworld it doesn't take much to persuade Conservatives to begin looking elsewhere to put their votes, money and efforts.

Now, you can rant and rave and wish aloud that someone would arrest me for treason while stating that its a free country to say and vote the way you want - but - you're a laughable buffoon on this issue, and all you have done is revealed that your respect for liberty is as thin as wet tissue paper.

Maybe you can get Trump to issue a Tweet outlawing third parties and making anyone who advocates for them a terrorist, traitor and criminal then.  That should please you. Again, stupidity isn't terrorism...what would please me would be a little wisdom from you.

Then do something about it to silence political speech you hate instead pounding away on keys on an internet forum.  I'm just laughing at you for all your bloviating. Trump and his supporters are in the front line fighting FOR free speech...but we are still free to condemn idiotic speech, which is all I'm doing here. And fools dance, jape and laugh when they should be thinking...so I'm not surprised you find this laugh worthy.

Well that contradicts your statement above that my actions on this board in advocating for a third party and getting Conservatives in the meat world to dump the Republicans are treasonous. Well, treasonously stupid...not legally so, obviously.

Your party has already done all that themselves. So we DO have a national 20$ minimum wage?...Every court in the country is Left Wing? ALL first amendment rights are now gone? Immigration IS up 10 million people per year? I'm making the case that it is time for Conservatives to stop being the abused and battered wife to an adulterous and Statist party of the Oligarchy - and, in the meatworld it doesn't take much to persuade Conservatives to begin looking elsewhere to put their votes, money and efforts. And so doing surrendering the nation in perpetuity to the Far Left....brilliant plan.

And up is down, left is right, free is enslaved...your bizarro world is a fiction of your own making. You try to glorify yourself by feigning someone wants to "arrest" you...the truth is we just want you stop being absurd.

You blather, yet fail to refute every point I made about your comically foolish stance on the President and the party. No one gets to be declared a "martyr" for conservatism simply because they are a fool...if so, you'd have achieved sainthood already.

Being a fool doesn't make you my enemy, but it does make you destructive to the cause of conservatism.

Your party and president has done more to destroy Conservatism and remake it into some kind of perverted liberal populist nationalism than anything I could ever hope to accomplish in twelve lifetimes.

Stupidity is not illegal, and those of us you disdain are the ones fighting to KEEP you from facing "Commissar" style justice...you just aren't wise enough to see it.

You aren't fighting jack shit except everyone who does not genuflect Trump or your failed party to your satisfaction.

Again, stupidity isn't terrorism

But Treason obviously:

Quote from: Mesaclone on Today at 08:43:10 PM
Such stupidity...even if directed by pure motives...must be seen as an act so heinously idiotic that it is in effect treasonous

Trump and his supporters are in the front line fighting FOR free speech

Whew!.... had to pull myself up off the floor from laughing after that one.  No, you people are not for free speech unless it's accolades aplenty for Trump.  TOS is a case-in-point as well as efforts here and elsewhere to silence and ban those whose loyalties to Trump are questioned.

Notwithstanding the open calls to sue the media and revisit libel laws for press that is critical of Trump.  Sorry, ForeverTrump® are proving to be the antithesis for free speech.

And so doing surrendering the nation in perpetuity to the Far Left....brilliant plan.

Your party has already done that.  Hell, they FUNDED it all during Obama's tenure and just this past March to the tune of 1.3 TRILLION in deficit spending to fund the entirety of the Democrat Left platform, AFTER Trump got 1.4 Trillion for the military back in February for fiscal 2018 and 2019.  You are busy accusing me of what your party has already achieved.  Which is typical of ForeverTrump®.

You try to glorify yourself by feigning someone wants to "arrest" you...the truth is we just want you stop being absurd.

No, I take what you said above at face value.  You don't say the crap you spewed above about third party efforts being treasonous and then attempt to walk it back and pretend you are just trying to persuade a cessation of absurdity.  Your Trumplican fellows on other forums and media have a fine history of more direct and open threats than you do - but you match them in spirit and tone with a decidedly restrained effort in your discourse.  But I discern the insinuation.

You blather, yet fail to refute every point I made about your comically foolish stance on the President and the party.

I already copied you verbatim in your last soliloquy.  As to refuting your points on my foolishness, there is a proverb about tossing pearls before swine.  Perhaps you've heard of it?
