McConnell: Any North Korea deal should be submitted to Congress
By Jordain Carney - 06/12/18 03:49 PM EDT

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Tuesday said that the administration should submit any deal with North Korea to Congress.

“I think there would be widespread interest in Congress for having involvement. ... [If] the president can reach a significant agreement with North Korea, I hope it takes the form of a treaty,” McConnell told reporters.

McConnell noted there was “precedent” for the administration making a deal without a treaty and what route they end up taking “will be up to them, but I do believe they'll need to come to Congress in some form.”

The Iran deal wasn't approved by Congress but it would be fun seeing the Democrats voting against ending the Korean war.

He could always take it to the UN, since the Korean War was a UN war.

It had congressional input, but not in the formal sense, as with a treaty.  One of the reasons Corker became a liability as a candidate was his work on the agreement to get it through congress.

I don't seem to recall The Turtle making the same demand of Obama over the Iran deal.

Suddenly, after surrendering their powers to Obama without even so much as a whimper, they suddenly want to reassert them because it's Trump?
Fart for freedom, fart for liberty and fart proudly.  - Benjamin Franklin

...Obsta principiis—Nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud, is the only maxim which can ever preserve the liberties of any people. When the people give way, their deceivers, betrayers and destroyers press upon them so fast that there is no resisting afterwards. The nature of the encroachment upon [the] American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Like a cancer, it eats faster and faster every hour." - John Adams, February 6, 1775

He did, but we still got a terrible deal.

WASHINGTON — The White House relented on Tuesday and said President Obama would sign a compromise bill giving Congress a voice on the proposed nuclear accord with Iran as the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, in rare unanimous agreement, moved the legislation to the full Senate for a vote.

An unusual alliance of Republican opponents of the nuclear deal and some of Mr. Obama’s strongest Democratic supporters demanded a congressional role as international negotiators work to turn this month’s nuclear framework into a final deal by June 30. White House officials insisted they extracted crucial last-minute concessions. Republicans — and many Democrats — said the president simply got overrun.

So now the deal Trump has with NK ended the Korean War?

I hope so too.

The Senate should vote on the finished deal. If it's a good treaty with solid verifications that the north has destroyed all their nuclear weapons and missiles there is no reason to oppose it.

It seems to me the two biggest problems are getting the North Koreans to believe we won't do to them what hillary did to Libya after they dismantled their nuclear program and for them to get us to believe they will do what they said since their history is that of a liar. I do like that Pompeo is Secty of State. He's got a good background to deal with this.

Double shocker!

So do I!
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

It might even be nice to get back to how the founders set up the govt.

Now if we could get McConnell to end the Senate filibuster and stupid rules that allow the Rats to delay nominations in endless fashion we might end up with a govt that works the will of the people.

We'd also have to repeal the 17th.
