Miss America is scrapping its swimsuit competition and will no longer judge contestants based on physical appearance, the organization announced Tuesday.

"We are no longer a pageant," Gretchen Carlson, the first former Miss America to be named chair of the Board of Trustees of the Miss America Organization, said on "GMA." "We are a competition."

In place of the swimsuit portion of the competition, Miss America contestants will now take part in a live interactive session with the judges, according to the organization.

I understand why she’s making the change – an attempt to show women as more than just sex objects. But that takes away the fun for roughly half the audience – the men! I just think the “competition” will end up being a snooze fest and ratings loser.

I would think the women enjoy the beauty part just as much as the men, albeit for different reasons.

They still have to win their state pageant to get as far as the Miss America competition.  Until or unless those also 'no longer judged based on physical appearance', this is just so much virtue signaling without any material impact ... other than more material in the final contest, I suppose.
