These appendicitis warning signs may warrant a trip to the emergency room.

Most people are pretty familiar with run-of-the-mill tummy troubles like constipation and diarrhea. You've probably also had the displeasure of experiencing food poisoning or a stomach virus at least once or twice in your life. While appendicitis is much less common, about 5% of the population eventually ends up with it, and if you fall into that unlucky group, you'll need to figure it out as soon as possible.

If you suspect the problem is your appendix if strongly recommend that you call an ambulance to take you to the emergency room.  My daughter took me and I was told there would be a 7 hour wait before anyone could see me.  After about an hour, my appendix ruptured and they still would not do anything.  Needless to say, we sought help elsewhere.  After surgery, a week in intensive care and an additional week in a room I was able to go home.  Never mess around with a potential appendix rupture!

When we were kids, my brother was literally doubled over with pain, so Mom called our family doctor.  This doctor was the old fashioned kind -- back in the day before there were all these specialists, he was a general practitioner, gastroenterologist, ob/gyn, pediatrician and a few dozen other "specialties' all in one. He still made house calls.  And he could accurately diagnose without a lot of fancy tests. 

This doctor came to our house, stood in the doorway of my brother's room as he was moaning in pain; then this doctor said to my parents "it's his appendix.  We have to get him to the hospital immediately."  Didn't wait for an ambulance.  The doctor put my brother in the back of his car, then with my parents following him, they sped to the hospital.  My brother was operated on right away.  Our doctor was right -- it was the appendix.  The doctor told my parents if they had waited much longer, the appendix would have burst and it could have been fatal.

That  hospital sounds like the one in my neighborhood.  If I need medical care, I go to one across town.  I wouldn't take a dog to the neighborhood hospital.
