Memorial Day Finds Americans Very Positive About Military
by Frank Newport

This year as the U.S. celebrates Memorial Day, the holiday that honors the men and women who died in service of their country, Americans continue to express more confidence in the military than in any other major institution in the nation.

This is not a new phenomenon; Americans have put the military at the top of the list of institutions Gallup has measured for each of the past 20 years. In our latest update, conducted in 2017, 72% of Americans had a great deal or quite a lot of confidence in the military, edging out small business, with a 70% confidence rating, for the top spot. By contrast, 12% of Americans have a great deal or quite a lot of confidence in Congress, putting that institution at the bottom of the list.
