Quote
A 30-year-old man from New York state has been ordered to move out of his parents' house after a very short legal battle with his Mom and Dad. Representing himself in court after a "brief search on the internet" that "took minutes," Rotondo argued that he was entitled to six more months at his parents' home rent free.

State Supreme Court Justice Donald Greenwood, with a mostly straight face, ordered Michael Rotondo of Camillus, New York to leave his parents' home for good after he reportedly moved back home eight years ago.

After years of encouraging him to seek work and become self-sufficient (and perhaps lose his virginity), Mark and Christina Rotondo were at their wits' end - finally penning a Feb. 2 eviction letter which read: "Michael, after a discussion with your mother, we have decided that you must leave this house immediately. You have 14 days to vacate. You will not be allowed to return. We will take whatever actions are necessary to enforce this decision.

Yeah.  Look at this guy.  He has the word "loser" written all over him.

I wonder how he is going to afford the costs of filing an appeal.  And if he can afford an appeal, why can't he afford to move out on his parents' home and live on his own?

If he had my parents, he would have been thrown out on his rear long ago.  Sufficient notice would not have been a problem.

Millennials are America's Deadbeat Generation.

To be fair, there have been lazy lumps in every generation and I know some millennials who are useful and productive.  I just think it seems like there are more of these losers today because of the rise of socialism (demands for free stuff), bad or no parenting , no understanding of the difference between right and wrong and so on.  It isn't the 1950s, Leave It to Beaver life anymore.  I miss the old days and until and unless we get back to living and doing things the right way, it's all downhill from here.

I work with employers/business owners  every day.  Very few have anything good to say about millenials. The stereotype is true.

I have to deal with them in my business. They are extremely self centered and unbelievably stupid.

and unbelievably stupid.

Most of my wife's employees are 50-55 and she has one employee approx 23-24 years old.  My wife tells me the younger employee is razzled all the time by the older ones for not knowing the very basic civics, basic tenants of life, common sense stuff. Literally stuff we learned in 4-5th grade.  Clueless.

Basic history?  I always though Jay Leno's "Jaywalking" was made up..  no longer.. As you said truly stupid.

It's not that they are just stupid, as if that is not enough, but they are ferociously anti-knowledge if you ask them the wrong question. Cars, movies, music, Zen Buddhism they know everything. But if you ask them anything about history be ready to get pummeled.

When was the Civil War? I don't know that shit dude! Get the hell away from me!

BTW, I have seen this attitude even with software engineers with a master degree. They know everything in the world about software and computers but absolutely nothing else.

Somehow they have been trained to believe that the general knowledge all of us learned in school is stupid for some reason. And people know general knowledge are stupid for knowing it. I don't know if they really believe that, or if it is a defense posture for being deliberately stupid. Either way, the effect is the same.

General knowledge is going the way of the dodo bird. Today people are being taught to be functional drones with a specific task. But no broad knowledge at all. It's a brave new world we are living in today.

Come to think of it they are not a very curious lot. They think they know it all with their limited experiences so they have no interest in looking into things further.

No! No /sarc. You made a very good point. With all knowledge at your fingertips, why learn anything? I think you have solved the puzzle.

My millennials are fine. They're not perfect people, just like none of the rest of us are, but they hold jobs, are married, have kids and are generally good people.  I knew the education system was lacking when they were growing up and made sure they got what they needed.

I have a daughter who just graduated college.  Many times we have talked about the ease of internet access and how it has changed immediate information on almost anything.

If we get deep in a conversation about something and a question comes up, we just google and have the answer.  You and I had to be interested enough to drive to a library to look it up, rather than just pause a conversation for maybe a minute.

While I believe many people at liberal arts colleges are wasting their time and money, not everybody can have a STEM career. There are only so many openings for those types of jobs.
Being well-rounded in a good balance between tech skills etc. needed for a job and knowledge of esoteric subjects or basic history, literature, the arts is a good thing. Like they said at Faber College: knowledge is good.  To which I add all types of knowledge and not just coding,  math, and various tech skills.

OK, smartass, the point I was making is, if you raised them, you have some responsibility in how they turned out.    22222frying pan

If my millennial step daughters and their husbands are any indication, few millennials are interested in history or current affairs other than knowing the name of the president or their candidate.
They are all pretty bright and very nice people who love their children, my grandchildren. But they all seem to have little interest  in things previous generations were interested in. They don't read non-fiction books or magazines. They don't watch shows about history.
Some people (including me) cheer for the demise of the dominant lib media organs, but they're  not dying because millennials are rejecting their message. It's because many millennials have little or no interest in anything outside of their entertainment/sports bubble. Their lack of curiosity about the history of the country and where we got where we are over the centuries is troubling.

I have pointed out to my kids they have it easy.  Just a reasonable amount of effort and carrying and you are in the leadership in this age.  It is easy today to get ahead of others that don't put forth any effort at all.
