US offers to help rebuild N Korea economy if it denuclearises

America will help rebuild North Korea's economy if it agrees to give up its nuclear weapons, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has said.

The US would be "prepared to work with North Korea to achieve prosperity on the par with our South Korean friends", he told reporters on Friday.

Mr Pompeo, who has just returned from Pyongyang, said he had "good" talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

what happened to the other thread on this that I was getting ready to reply on?

Anyway I had asked about what North Korea has for the global market.  I think it was Cyber Liberty who said minerals.  Yes they have, could be trillions in minerals.  So being that Trump wanted to take the oil from Iraq I am sure he is expecting as much back and more for helping.

I'll gladly pay it with my taxpayer dollars, we have been paying North Korea forever with NOTHING in return, now, we might be able to truly fix it and denuclearize the peninsula. If Iran were to go that way as well, that would truly be miraculous.

1. The alternative to helping them is what led to WWII, when the allies sought to punish Germany.

2. The entire world should have benefits, from a peaceful prosperous nation.

3. The workforce, if anything like S. Korea, could well prove to be technically competent, and roductive.

BMW builds their fine vehicles, in Leipzig, which was in East Germany. So therefore, Samsund, LG, Hyundai/Kia might well use the North for expansions.

The minerals of most interest to me would be the Rare Earths...because China has a global stranglehold on them.  I'm sure that part of China's reluctance in opening up DPRK has been concern over competition as this source opens up.

Nope. They won’t learn anything if they don’t do it themselves. If you’ve never watched Poverty, Inc.it’s on Netflix and it’s worth your time.

My apologies, the other thread that came AFTER this one, got swept into the stickied thread above, 1st one.

But anyway, if we help develop North Korea economically, I've thought, Kim's acts and those of his ruling predecessor father and grandfather are so heinous, how could he continue? Well, I guess, we will find away... but it'd be like you know, a destructive dictator in the past, say Pol Pot in Cambodia or the World War II dictators and saying, we'll help get your economy in shape, as long as you give up your nukes.

I mean, the Kims have done terrible things from all I know, in that prison camp nation.

U.S. officials offer economic aid to North Korea

I guess it was easy for this deal, just take the Iran deal, cross through Iran and write in North Korea.

U.S. officials offer economic aid, security assurances if North Korea eliminates nuclear program

The U.S. is prepared to quickly lift sanctions on North Korea and promise its leader, Kim Jong Un, that it would not seek to oust him from power, senior officials said Sunday, sketching out the terms of a possible deal if Kim agrees to give up his nuclear weapons.
"We will have to provide security assurances" to Kim as part of a nuclear deal, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on "Fox News Sunday." "Our hope is that Kim wants a strategic change, and President Trump is prepared to help."...

The headline doesn't seem to match the content.  Further down in the article:

To avoid repeating that pattern, Pompeo implied, Kim would have to make sweeping concessions up front, which would be matched quickly by U.S. private investment in North Korea, focused on improving its antiquated power grid and boosting its food supply.

U.S. government aid to the North is not likely, Pompeo and Bolton said.

KIM:   Pleased to meet you, Mr. Secretary Pompeo.

POMPEO:  Likewise, Mr. Supreme Leader Jung-un.

KIM:  I understand that there is a pressing short 30 second video you wish to show us before we start?

POMPEO:  Yes sir.   We recently showed it to President Putin and your Iranian allies...the Ayatollahs.  Without exception, they were most impressed.  May I?

5 minutes later.....

POMPEO:   So you see?   You can remain in your present position and witness a profound industrial revolution in your country as you join the world of nations.   Or you,  and everyone in this world you love can be instantly vaporized by one of our defensive, weaponized satellites

........................

Yes, it may be totally absurd.   But, how else to explain exactly what's going on?

We gave aid to both Japan and Germany too; easy decision to make.   Is this seriously a question that we shouldn't?

Pompeo called Kim's announcement last week that North Korea would destroy its nuclear testing site "a good first step."

Which is still where we are at today, at this moment in time.

Two things that will be ok for me if

1. Kim and his family leaves NK. I'm sure they live in China.
2. There are steps towards unification of SK - NK.
