   Ain't Complaining is brilliant even without the Horn section I envision will be in the final Cut. @EasyAce
@corbe
I did think about horns for that song, but there's a problem where I live---too many horn players here like to bleat, squeak, shriek, honk, bellow, blast, or fart their instruments. And that's just the saxophonists! (Don't get me started on the trumpeters or trombonists.) You can count on half a hand how many of them don't and those guys are all tied up in five bands at a time.

There's also another problem---too many people insisting you try copying this or that or the other thing before they'll even give you the time of day, never mind play with you. I actually had one guy who was going to play harmonica with me a few years ago come over to my place to start working out some music and he looked me dead in the eye and said, "You ought to listen to this or that and copy what they're doing." That was the end of our association right there, because I told him, "Son, there already were those guys, and I'm not those guys, I'm me."

I have my influences, everyone does, and mine aren't strictly guitar players, but if I wanted to just copy them I'd have "XEROX" stamped on my neck and I don't do tattoos. Or costumes. Or that ersatz-Blues Brothers/Stevie Ray Vaughan look. Or wandering onto a bandstand looking like I'd been thrown out of a crack house for violating their dress code. I like to look human on a bandstand even if I also agree with something Duane Allman once said: You wanna play in my band, you better come to pick, not show off your clothes, this ain't no fashion show. (Or, a wild animal act with instruments.)

   Enjoying the $hit out of this @EasyAce Still listening Really enjoyed Downtown
@corbe
Thank you! I'm particularly proud of that one, since I was actually working out a bass line for something else but the line just made its own suggestion and I went with it from there. I set it up for a band to jam the hell out of it even with the key changes, I just have to make sure the keyboard player remembers to give a high sign for the key change that goes when it's my turn to take the ride.

Duke Ellington loved revisiting his material years after he first raised it . . . but you can make a case that he never did this one from his protege Billy Strayhorn better, including his original 1939 hit, than he did on this circa 1960 set . . .

Lest Ye Sorrow | 1Thessalonians | Scripture Song | Fountainview Academy | God So Loved the World
! No longer available
Found this is 1 Thessalonians  4: 13-18, KJV:

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 King James Version (KJV), for the most part.

Quote
13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

A Mighty Fortress Is Our God
The United Methodist Hymnal Number 110
Text: Martin Luther Trans. by Frederick H. Hedge
Music: Martin Luther Harmony from The New Hymnal for American Youth
Tune: EIN' FESTE BURG, Meter: 87.87.66.667

1. A mighty fortress is our God,
a bulwark never failing;
our helper he amid the flood
of mortal ills prevailing.
For still our ancient foe
doth seek to work us woe;
his craft and power are great,
and armed with cruel hate,
on earth is not his equal.

2. Did we in our own strength confide,
our striving would be losing,
were not the right man on our side,
the man of God's own choosing.
Dost ask who that may be?
Christ Jesus, it is he;
Lord Sabaoth, his name,
from age to age the same,
and he must win the battle.

3. And though this world, with devils filled,
should threaten to undo us,
we will not fear, for God hath willed
his truth to triumph through us.
The Prince of Darkness grim,
we tremble not for him;
his rage we can endure,
for lo, his doom is sure;
one little word shall fell him.

4. That word above all earthly powers,
no thanks to them, abideth;
the Spirit and the gifts are ours,
thru him who with us sideth.
Let goods and kindred go,
this mortal life also;
the body they may kill;
God's truth abideth still;
his kingdom is forever.
