Liberal commentators and media figures mocked former GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney  for saying that “hot dog” is his “favorite meat.”

Romney, now running for a Utah Senate seat, made the comment at a dinner organized by his campaign, according to a profile of the candidate by the Washington Examiner.

“My favorite meat is hot dog, by the way. That is my favorite meat,” Romney said. “My second favorite meat is hamburger. And, everyone says, oh, don’t you prefer steak? It’s like, I know steaks are great, but I like hot dog best, and I like hamburger next best.”

Social media users were quick to jump on Romney for the quote, with most mocking Romney for his wealth and joking that the quote was a failed attempt to seem relatable to average voters.

Actually, 100% Vienna Beef wiener, mustard, chopped onion, chopped cucumber, chopped tomato, dill slice, and a dash of celery salt on top... on a good poppy seed hoagie roll.

I hate pork hot dogs.  I found a local shop that has uncured beef hot dogs and they're probably the best dog I've had; grilled with mustard and dill pickle slices.

Nitrates are not necessarily bad. Celery powder has been used in preserving meat for a thousand years... Though I would admit that your common hot dog probably is not noted for good nitrates.

Agreed about the pork... but try what I said.
I also like a beef polish dog w/ brown mustard, onion, and kraut.

I grew up on Esskay, but they were only a regional brand.  My mom’s mother worked there at one time and always said “don’t ask” when questioned about the making process.

While there are many things I take issue with Romney on, this is not one of them. Nothing like a good decked out dog, or brat.
