Federal agency says it lost track of 1,475 migrant children

By: GARANCE BURKE, Associated Press

Federal officials lost track of nearly 1,500 migrant children last year after a government agency placed the minors in the homes of adult sponsors in communities across the country, according to testimony before a Senate subcommittee Thursday.

The Health and Human Services Department has a limited budget to track the welfare of vulnerable unaccompanied minors, and realized that 1,475 children could not be found after making follow-up calls to check on their safety, an agency official said.

If they "lost" them, that means they are no longer paying welfare benefits to the families that took them in,which means they went back home.

No, in this world, it does not mean that.  They may well still be paying the benefits to those families.

They're not sending them to the "child"; they go to a host family or adult.

I teach in an urban school district. The baby mamas give their kids their last name, not the baby daddy’s. Then sisters (biological not racial slang) swap SS numbers at tax time to file for the credit. The IRS doesn’t come after them because they are below poverty level and will never repay the money, plus prosecution of baby mamas would mean more kids in foster care while mamas are locked up. To the IRS, it’s not worth it. People still getting paid for missing kids? I’m going to believe it. I just pray the kids are okay and not sold into human trafficking.
I stand with Roosgirl.
