Mass firing at Red State
« on: April 27, 2018, 05:27:46 pm »
Mass firing at Red State

Salem Media, owner of the influential conservative outlet RedState, froze the site on Friday and dismissed many of its writers.

Bloggers were locked out of their accounts -- some just temporarily, while the cuts were made, and others permanently.

Erick Erickson, who founded the site 13 years ago, and left in 2015, tweeted about what he called the "mass firing" on Friday morning.

"Very sad to see, but not really surprising given Salem's direction," he wrote. "And, finally, after all these years, they've turned off my account."

Looks like the NeverTrumpers at Red State got purged.

This has to be a good thing.  I could no longer trust, or even stomach, some of their writers who had become as snarky as anything you could find on Yahoo.

I hope Susan Wright is gone.

I love Townhall.com.  Used to hang out at their forum (loved Warlady, especially).

I dunno.

Debate is good, and even necessary, even among people who we agree with most of the time.
We do this here.

Echo Chambers are not good or necessary.

I'll miss RedState.
I don't expect them to be around after the Trump administration, if they last that long.

Did I agree with the writers that they fired?
Sometimes, yes, and sometimes, no.

At the end of the day, it's a business, and I guess the ratings were down.

Yep, it is a business.  And debate is good.  But when I go to 'conservative' websites, I expect certain things.  Debate, yes.  But piling on Trump is the norm on most media and I didn't go to Red State to see it.  But, Yeah, I hope Red State hangs around.

It was a mix.
It looks like the NT'ers were bad for business and they are gone.
Some were way over the top, no doubt.

National Review has always had a myriad of Conservative opinion, (but much better writers), since the day Buckley founded it.
They've had there own purges, too, like running off the Birchers decades ago.

The truth is, conservatives are more likely to debate the fine points of policy and tenets, and not march in lock-set, like liberals do.

I hope that never changes.

Boy.... is that ever an understatement!  Hell, we conservatives can't even agree (in lock-step) with most conservative issues right here...lol!  Not that that's a bad thing, mind you.

I was looking forward to rejoining RS but Susan Wright appears to still be there - that's a showstopper for me - she should have been the first one fired.

Criticism of Trump is fine but some of those idiots make it sound like they'd be happy to replace him with Clinton or Obama or Sanders - that's the kind of drivel that drove me away from the site...

But because they weren't exactly enamored with The Donald...you'll hear conservatives cheering long and loud about how a Liberal corporation silenced a conservative website.

@Snarknado   Totally agree.  Susan could not have been nastier if she'd unleashed her closet Whoopie.

It's kinda the way I feel about TBR.  Legitimate criticism is fine and often deserved.  Jumping on any tiny molehill to make into a negative mountain about Trump bugs me.

Interesting.
The things I have read read here, and on Twitter, lead me to believe this was an NT purge at RedState.
Not that they should or shouldn't do that, it's their business to choose who they hire.
They have every right to staff it as they see fit, of course.
With Susan Wright still there, there seems to be more to the story than meets the eye..

Poor baby. So blind you wish not see the fact of the matter
When the opposition opinion from that place was (Most but not all) blatant hyperbole and the reporting  presented hearsay and lies as fact I say,  step off.

So I did some recon work, and the only Susan Wright article I found, had to do with Hannity's Real Estate, but it was dated 5 days ago 4/22/2018.

So there's that.

Looks like an NT purge at RedState.

LOL, I saw the news at Twitter and was looking forward to the reaction here.  All of a sudden the Trump fans who called the site garbage because it wasn't a Donald site are like, "Wtf, I love RedState now!"

What a time to be alive.

@corbe

No, it's not brown-nosing, it's just the truth.

If people need a site that's going to allow them to exist in a bubble and regurgitate their own opinions back at them, they have places like Free Republic or Orange State.  If you prefer to think for yourself and are capable of sorting out the facts on your own, then just go on Twitter and follow the writers who were fired.  You don't need an account to do it; you can just read.  Those people will be picked up by another site; in fact, a lot of things seem to be in the works even now.

'Mass firing' at conservative site RedState

SOURCE: CNN MONEY

URL: http://money.cnn.com/2018/04/27/media/redstate-blog-salem-media/index.html

by by Brian Stelter @brianstelter

Salem Media, owner of the influential conservative outlet RedState, froze the site on Friday and dismissed many of its writers.

Bloggers were locked out of their accounts -- some just temporarily, while the cuts were made, and others permanently.

Erick Erickson, the site's longtime editor who left in 2015, tweeted about what he called the "mass firing" on Friday morning.

"Very sad to see, but not really surprising given Salem's direction," he wrote. "And, finally, after all these years, they've turned off my account."

RedState writers work on contract and are paid based on the amount of traffic to their posts.

Salem had no immediate comment. But an internal memo obtained by CNNMoney confirmed the housecleaning.

"We had to make some tough changes to RedState today," Townhall general manager Jonathan Garthwaite wrote in the memo. "While these changes are painful, they were necessary once we reached the conclusion that we could no longer support the entire roster of writers and editors."

But because they weren't exactly enamored with The Donald...you'll hear conservatives cheering long and loud about how a Liberal corporation silenced a conservative website.

The broadcast and radio side of Salem is what's bleeding money.  It wasn't the Conservative websites or blog sites.

Salem owns KSKY 660 AM in DFW. The entire lineup is nothing but hard core, dare I say virulent, Trump supporters. Their ratings have been consistently hovering around 1.0 for months.

Mark Davis, the early AM host, is hard to listen to. The content of the show is awful, with only 15 minutes of actual talk every half hour. The rest is filled with commercials and a bit of news at the bottom and top of the hour. Outside of 10 minutes after the hour to 20 minutes, and 20 minutes before the hour for 10-12 minutes, there's no earthly reason to tune them in. I can't believe Salem's making any money with those ratings.
You can avoid reality, but you cannot avoid the consequences of avoiding reality.
