Trump to pardon ex-Cheney aide Scooter Libby: report

President Trump is expected to pardon Scooter Libby, the former chief of staff to then-Vice President Dick Cheney, ABC News reported Thursday.

The president has reportedly already signed off on the pardon for Libby, who was convicted in 2007 for lying to the FBI and obstructing justice in the investigation into who leaked the identity of ex-CIA agent Valerie Plame.

Multiple people claimed that Libby leaked Plame's identity to them after he had publicly stated he was not the source of the information.

Former President George W. Bush commuted Libby’s subsequent 30-month prison sentence, but did not pardon him.

Good. Bush was too big of a piece of shit to pardon the guy that got caught up in bold faced lies his pals Armatige and Powell told in that investigation.

Just another bit of tangible evidence that Donny is 10 times that man W could ever wish to be.

President Trump issued the third pardon of his presidency Friday to I. “Scooter” Lewis Libby, who was convicted in 2007 of lying to FBI agents investigating the leak of a CIA agent’s identity.

Libby worked as chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney before he was sentenced to 30 months in prison and a $250,000 fine. President George W. Bush spared him from prison by commuting his sentence to time served.

Libby temporarily lost his ability to practice law. He also paid the $250,000 fine, performed 400 hours of community service and served two years of probation, according to the White House.

Excellent move by the President.  Libby should have never been convicted in the first place.

Mr. Libby didn’t deserve to be railroaded by the FBI. I lost all respect for GW Bush when he did not do what he should have done and what Trump just did.

President Trump on Friday pardoned Scooter Libby, the former aide to Vice President Dick Cheney who was ensnared in what was known as the “Valerie Plame affair” during the Bush administration.

“I don’t know Mr. Libby,” Trump said in a statement. “But for years I have heard that he has been treated unfairly. Hopefully, this full pardon will help rectify a very sad portion of his life."

Libby told Fox News in a brief phone call after Trump's announcement he is “pleased” his innocence “has been recognized.”

Libby, who served as Cheney's chief of staff, was convicted in 2007 of perjury, obstruction of justice and making false statements. The case stemmed from an investigation into the leaking of the covert identity of CIA officer Valerie Plame, though Libby was not charged for the leak itself.

President George W. Bush had previously commuted Libby's prison sentence.

The Libby case has been criticized by conservatives, who argue he was the victim of an overly zealous and politically motivated prosecution by a special counsel.

Plame’s identity, it turned out, was leaked to journalist Robert Novak not by the White House, but by Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage.

Bush should have done what Trump just did. I lost respect for him when he did not do the right thing.

This whole thing was a set-up and the prosecutor, Patrick Fitzerald should be ashamed of himself for what he did.

He should have closed shop as soon as he found out that the leak came from Richard Armitage. Instead, he went on and on
in order to create a trap to "get" someone in the Bush White House.



Fitzerald is no better than Stalin's head of Secret Police.
