You should consider adding rutabaga to your diet: Here’s why

04/08/2018 / By Michelle Simmons

Rutabaga, also called swede or Swedish turnip, may be unfamiliar to some. It is a nutritious vegetable that you should consider adding to your cart the next time you go grocery shopping. Rutabaga (Brassica napus subsp. rapifera, Brassicaceae) is a natural hybrid between a cabbage and turnip. The root vegetable is the enlarged base of the stem of the plant. The flesh of the plant is often pale yellow or white, while its exterior can either be a darker yellow or purple in color.

It is a biennial plant that stores well and thrives in cooler climates where summer season is not extremely hot. After being harvested, rutabaga can be stored in a damp and cool root cellar or similar environment, where it can last up to six months in storage. Moreover, the green top of the plant is removed and the bulb is waxed in order to avoid loss of moisture during storage or transit.

Love rutabagas. Great substitute to potatoes.
The Republic is lost.
